Couldn't we benefit from the use of zipcars in southern maryland too? They're all over DC, Silver Spring, VA and other metropolitan cities.

Zipcars are great if you live where there is mass transit and very seldom need a car for getting around town. Mass transit in southern MD is spotty at best. Ex-boss went the zipcar route 10 yrs ago when it first came into being, but he lives in a condo across the street from Verizon Center and very seldom travels beyond the reach of the Metro system. Works great for him.

never heard of it until this thread... sounds like a great idea but this area is too rural to really benefit from it, IMO...

It could save the fire departments a lot of time. When there's a crash with a drunk redneck in a pickup going 100 MPH, they spend a lot of time cutting out the victim. If more people drove zipcars, they could just wash away the residue and be done. It would also save on repair costs for the pickups since it wouldn't do much more than scratch them.

I work in DC and use Zipcars all the time for work. They're pretty neat because they're parking all over the city, your membership card works as the key to unlock the doors and you can rent them for a couple of hours at a reasonable price. The other good thing is that there is a gas card inside the car, and you dont have to pay for gas.

 Per the Zipcar - Wiki: "Zipcar offers more than 30 makes and models of vehicles, including BMWs, Volvos, MINI Coopers, Prius Hybrids, pickup trucks and more."
