Montanans protest GOP ‘assault’ on environmental and labor programs | The Raw Story

"More than a thousand Montanans gathered in front of the state Capitol of Helena on Monday to protest budgetary plans to cut health, educational, environmental and labor programs while pushing for corporate tax cuts.

Republicans in Montana are pushing legislation to gut the Montana Environmental Policy Act, reduce workers' compensation insurance, close the Montana Veterans Home in Columbia Falls, prevent the establishment of a state health insurance exchange, slash a number of health programs, and cut funding to higher education in the state.

Meanwhile, Republican lawmakers have said they will eliminate the state’s business equipment tax. Eliminating the tax would amount to a loss of $90 million to local governments statewide, The Daily Inter Lake reported.

The rally followed similar demonstrations that occurred in Wisconsin and Ohio, where public employees have organized large protests against efforts to curb their collective bargaining rights.

Conservationists, sportsmen, firefighters, teachers, correctional officers and others at the rally chanted slogans such as "hunting, fishing, recreation — makes Montana the best in the nation," The Great Falls Tribune reported.

One piece of legislation, introduced by Republican State Rep. Joe Read, would declare global warming a "natural occurrence" that it is "beneficial to the welfare and business climate of Montana."

Hmm, who were these Montanans, anyway? I see a reference to hunters, and sportsmen, but also this bit....

firefighters, teachers, correctional officers

Methinks I smell a union organized protest, a public union at that........ah, som much for the vision of rugged individualists coming together to protect their right to freedom, which the evil Republicans are taking away....

Lets try another source, shall we? One that gives the name of the protest, oddly left out of the first article, and the names of the groups that put it on, again, left out. If your articles slant requires you to leave out facts, then you are guilty of journalistic malpractice.

$90 million. Hmm. There are about one million people in Montana. If Montanan's want all that stuff, why don't they just pay for it and bill everyone $90 a head for it? Family of four; $360. And everyone is happy.

In the mean time, business can take that $90 million and buy more equipment, give people raises, expand, pay off debt or, maybe they'll just set it on fire as is what leftists seem to think they do with it.

The question is a simple one; Better for the government to take a dollar and spend it or the private sector?

I say we, the people, will get better value out of it. We might even spend it on college or save it for if we lose a job or what have you or spend it at the doctors.

In My Opinion
We should set up a march on Annapolis to force the GA to stop letting teachers go in order to fund the illegals.,
We could demand responsible use of taxpayer dollar for taxpayer needs.

Maybe national attention right now would get OweMalleys attention and cause him to abandon his "new American" pets.

There, I pre-wrote the headline for it.
