"MADISON, Wis. (WSAU) - Four months after he was elected Wisconsin's governor, Scott Walker's approval ratings have slipped precipitously.

The controversy over Walker's approach to the state budget may be driving numbers lower. The latest Rasmussen Reports telephone survey, released Friday, shows only 34 percent of respondents strongly approve of the job he's doing."

And when Wisconsin taxpayers vote again he'll be elected by a landslide, right?

Rasmussen has a pretty good synopsis for why his numbers have slipped
In addition to the usual partisan and demographic breakdowns, it’s interesting to note that Walker, now engaged in a budget battle with unionized state workers, receives a total approval rating of 46% from households with private sector union members. However, among households with a public sector union member, only 19% offer their approval. Among all other households in the state, opinion is nearly evenly divided—49% favorable and 51% unfavorable.
Wisconsin Governor Walker: 43% Approval Rating - Rasmussen Reports™
It's kind of funny that 1/5 of public sector union households still approve of his job.

The concept of doing what you promised you would do instead of succumbing to the whims of public opinion polls seems like a strange concept to his opponents

34% "strongly approve". I bet that's better than Oblahma's rating. Definitely massively better than the Democratic Congress's rating.

Huh. Seems like it was only yesterday when Pelosi and Reid and Obama were cramming Obamacare down all our throats against public opinion and THAT was supposed to be a good, principled stand, polls be damned.

What changed?

The Sides.

Liberals don't stand on principal, they blow back and forth in the wind and run with anything that supports their agenda at the moment.

Opinion polls only matter if they support your point, if they are against it, then opinion polls are to be forgotten, its the principled stand that is important.

Of course that is perfectly intellectually consistent and honest, like we've come to expect from Liberals.

the people have gotten their smarts back

Scott Walker failed to prove that collective bargaining had any relationship to his self induced budget crisis

this became more apparent once the unions agreed to the cut backs and concessions

Not really all that much has changed, The Dems still don't like him, the Rep for the most part still do. About the only demographic that has changed it 80% of the public sector union members don't want him.

Who proved that and when?

Sure, push the problem down the road when some later Gov has to try to deal with the problem
There's no reason to screw some later governor with this issue, start fixing the problem while the political winds are in his favor.

If Democrats are so concerned with individual union members and their rights and welfare, then why do the Democrats push "Card Check" at the Behest of their Union Bosses.

Card Check would remove the guarantee of secret ballot, and the privacy of voting.

Workers would be forced to vote in front of Union Bosses without Federal Supervision.

More power for the Union Bosses, who call the shots, and less rights and even threats and intimidation for the workers to vote what the bosses want.

I'm sure all the union members will be happy to write that check for their dues every month

In fact, the public union members in Wisconsin do not write that check to the unions every month. The dues are withheld from their paycheck by the state so they are invisible among all the other withholdings. One of the "Loss of my rights" complaints is that Walker wants to take the state out of the dues withholding and payment to the unions. He wants those union dues to become visible and then allow the members to re-certify the unions each year. That the unions do not believe they can withstand.

Dues will also become voluntary

True. The GOP stands on principal. They say one thing, smaller government, less spending, energy independence, reign in entitlements, control our borders and do another, consistently. :buddies:

I won't disagree, especially a couple years into the Bush Admin, they were trying to stay in power by buying votes like democrats.

My choice is "we are going to spend 10 times as worse than anyone ever has" Democrats -OR- "we've learned our lesson, we'll do better on core principals of our party and riegn in spending" Republicans, which do you think is the better choice? The latter has more credibility right off, while the former still thinks we can borrow and spend ourselves into prosperity.
