I've thought that a lot of things concerning national security are probably a lot more complex than what some ideologically based Senator from Illinois still wet behind the ears thinks they are.
It's always safe to say from the comfort and safety of your Senate seat what your constituents want to hear, which is why it often happens that once someone gets in office they find that sometimes, their predecessor had it right.
Goes double for waltzing into office with the promise that they can reach across the aisle and work with the other side. W said that too in 2000 and we see how that worked out.
