yeah, someone was trying to 'sell magazines' to my husband at wal-mart...but wanted him to get an ATM slip so she had proof? That was at WalMart in California.

I always see these warnings but has anyone told these people to their face that they know its a scam and if so what was the sellers reaction? Did they deny it or leave quickly?

Actually, I did exactly that last fall. After letting them tell me who and what they are about, I asked what school they were associated with. I got this really stupid look from them both. I told them to get off my property and take their scam with them. One of them got really nasty and started cussing me out. I then told them they now had 10 seconds to get or the dog was coming out to escort them. They then went right across the street and my neighbor entertained them for a good 30 minutes!!! Funny thing was, as I was leaving the house, I saw these guys up on the next corner getting into a big Chevy SUV with NY plates. So far, my neighbor has not received anything. DUH!!!!

there were some college kids out in my neighborhood yesterday (base housing, solicitation not permitted) selling the Washington Post "to help pay for his college books". I told him I already had the Post, and he said "Oh okay"... and walked away with his other buddy who was heading to the next house.

don't they give these guys lists of subscribers?

i should have told him it was illegal to solict in the neighborhood but didn't think about it until afterwards.

I've only ever had the "cleaning supply" scam. Some guy going door to door selling the worlds only cleaning liquid that was apparently safe to drink. Once I had him demonstrate the pure awesomeness of its cleaning power by scrubbing all the gunk off of my outside light and proving the "safe to drink" thing, by actually drinking it. I bought a bottle. Heck the 15$ was worth the fun I had messing with the guy.
