Dems Up The Ante, Seek Tax Increases For Millionaires | Crooks and Liars

"This is a good sign. Instead of sitting around and waiting for leadership from the White House, liberal Congress members are taking the initiative to push tax legislation that will clearly draw the lines between the rich -- and everybody else. From The Hill:

In an interesting development, liberals are calling for taxes to be raised on people making more than $1 million annually while Obama and other party leaders have embraced $250,000 or more per year. The left-leaning lawmakers stress that while they still support what Obama wants to do, the president wasn't able to convince the Democratic-led Congress to pass his tax blueprint last year.

The group of legislators, which includes Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) and Rep. Jan Schakowsky (D-Ill.), argue that poll numbers suggest the public is on their side and that added revenue is needed to narrow deficits and keep programs such as Head Start from being placed on the chopping block.

But they downplayed the dollar figure differences between their plans and the president's.

“I don’t think there’s anything magical about 250,000 or a million. It’s how much money do you need,” said Sanders, whose proposal would set a 5.4 percent surtax on income over $1 million a year. “In my view, the Democrats and the president should be very strong on this issue: that our goal is shared sacrifice and let’s not balance the budget on the backs of the working and middle class.”

Schakowsky signaled that her legislation – which would create a 45 percent bracket for income between $1 million and $10 million a year, with a top rate of 49 percent for income of $1 billion a year and above – could work in concert with a plan to return rates to Clinton administration levels. The current top individual tax rate of 35 percent would rise to 39.6 percent at the end of next year, unless Congress again extends existing high-income rates."

so, lets consider no deductions
at 900,000 a year someone would take home roughly 653,400
at 1,000,000 a year that same someone would take home 450,000

That certainly sounds fair to me.

Anyone else see the idiocy of the left when it comes to killing off those people that are actually responsible for creating jobs in this country?

And wasn't the MD comptroller just so surprised at how many people in MD went from making over a million to just under a million in one short year after MD tried the same "tax the millionaires more" stunt?

They will never learn.

this is what is is all about ...... in someone estimation, how much do you really need ......

let's just tax Bill Gates, Warren Buffet, George Soros, Michael Moore, and all the Hollywierd crowd @ 95% and see how they like it ...

Brad Bitt only needs 100k a yr ..... James Cameron can sell his 3 houses in Malibu and live in Compton ...... Al "gas bag" Gore .... can get in apt in town ...

Teresa Heinz Kerry ..... and the Tides Foundation ... take all there money away

It doesn't matter if they take all of absolutely everyone's money - it still won't change if they don't stop overspending.

Conversation with a friend yesterday started with him suggesting that we'd be in a much better financial place if Bush hadn't gotten us into two wars; that we might actually be in surplus.

I answered - please. When has Washington had lots of money and decided, gee, let's save this money and pay down our debt instead? If we hadn't gone to war, they would have still overspent the money.

You don't think so? We don't have the money NOW, and they're spending us into oblivion.

The problem isn't they don't get enough. The problem is they spend too much, and part of this is, they can't seem to draw the line where government is just supposed to sit back and say, not our job.

Breaking news, looks like there are many people from NPR that would be effected by this.

Brilliant, confiscate capital that could be used to generate jobs and put it toward the continued funding of "Cowboy Peotry Festivals" and "Click & Clack the Tappet Brothers". Which its rumored they recieve a million dollar salary, each, for doing a radio show once a week. The NPR weekend news show host, receives more than $300k a year for doing a radio show once a week. Thank goodness, we aren't cuttin this abuse and waste, where the lower paid folks have to pay to provide higher salaries than their own for less work and responsibility. Now we need to take more capital out of the private sector, because, you know, the country would collapse if we cut the fraud, waste and abuse from government instead of continuing to fund it.

nhboy, you must teach economics, but I'm guessing at the "Lenin School of Demagoguing people into choosing Socialism".
