St. Mary’s County Government is in the process of updating its Land Preservation, Parks and Recreation Plan (LPPRP). The LPPRP acts as a County-wide master plan for recreational programming, park acquisition, and facility development. To assist with this project, the County has developed a citizen survey to solicit input on needs, experiences, views and opinions regarding recreation and open space preservation. The web-based survey can be found on the Recreation and Parks website at https://www.surveymonkey.com/s/saintmarysrecreation

The LPPRP is an important document for identifying recreational, agricultural, and natural resource and open space preservation needs. Once adopted, the LPPRP will guide County policies and actions to address those needs in the future. The LPPRP is updated every six years and offers the opportunity to reassess priorities in light of population growth and changing economic, social and market conditions. The St. Mary’s County plan, along with the plans from other counties, will be used by the State to guide planning, funding and programs to meet land preservation, parks and recreation needs state-wide.

For more information on the process to update the LPPRP, please contact the Department of Recreation and Parks at (301) 475-4200 ext. 1811, or e-mail kathy.bailey(at)stmarysmd.com. Citizens may download a copy of the 2005 plan at St. Mary's County Government - Department of# Recreation and Parks.
