Horrible!!! Took my daughter to his office after she broke her wrist and I was instructed by the e.r. to contact him for an appointment on monday.

On Monday I take her to the appointment and there are nothing but a bunch of young girls there working. They seem nice enough, and seem to know what they are talking about (taking instruction by phone from Dr. Herron), so we schedule an appointment for Friday to have her arm casted.

On Friday when we return, still no doctor there. Same bunch of young girls.

The problem is, all the information about my daughters treatment/care has CHANGED!!!

I have no option at this point but to go ahead and let them do what they are now saying she needs because the fastest i was able to get an appointment for another orthopedic doctor is May 18th.

After they finish, I go to the receptionist desk to pay and check out. I ask 1 simple question, (Will you be submiting the bill to the insurance company for the entire cost of the waterproof cast), and she was unable to answer the question, and didn't even bother trying to get me an answer.

I can only hope that these people that seemed completely incompetent, haven't done anything to hinder my daughters healing process.

New to southern Maryland, are you?

As I like to say, "there's no business doing so well in southern Maryland that the local talent can't ruin it for them."

I have had a bad experience there too and will never go back. I thought the front desk girls were very rude and the doctor thought I was making my pain up! Went to another doctor and he diagnosed me with arthritis - he used the same x-rays too! Why would I make up something like that!

What changed?

the casting. we were told it was all pretty strait forward, only needed casted on her wrist, hand and forearm.

when we went back today, they changed it to being up past her elbow.

huge change to a young girl that pitches softball. especially when you take rehabilitation into consideration. Now her whole arm will need therapy, instead of just her hand and wrist.

Had we been properly informed of this, we would have attempted to get a second opinion right away. Now we have to wait almost 3 weeks before she can be seen anywhere else.

Yeah and it's the people who don't abuse them and really do need them from time to time that can't get any because of all the damn drug heads around here... UFB
to get a prescription for pain pills. people do that all the time.

Wow.. sorry to hear. I went to him in 2007 and 2008 for a severely sprained ankle. Both times, I had no problems with him or the office staff. However, a team mate of mine was recently referred to him by the insurance company. He went for a couple visits, and told me Dr. Herron hasn't done anything to help him. He finally decided to go to another doctor, who told him he needs surgery as soon as he can get it done. Looks like his business has went down hill. If I ever need an ortho again, guess I'll go somewhere else. I hope your daughter comes out of this situation with no problems!

thank you.

looks to me like this dr. herron has decided to take a "hands off" approach, leaving a small group of young girls to do everything.

I went to him, and he screwed up. I ended up going to the Chesepeake Hand Specialist in Baltimore.

Wait a minute! Your daughter broke her arm (you didn't say when), you took her to a doctor on Monday, and that doctor said to bring her back on Friday? A friggin' week AFTER she broke it? Did you not have enough sense to take her back to the ER and demand they treat her? "The problem is, all the information about my daughters treatment/care has CHANGED!!!
Of course the treatment has changed. Christ, the girl walked around with a broken arm for a full friggin' week and you did nothing! Unbelievable!

You did not say where or what kind of fracture she has.

The correct way to cast ( or splint a fracture) is to stabilize the joint above the fracture and the joint below.
If there is a wrist fracture, then the above the elbow is correct.
It keeps the radius and the ulna from rotating on each other and moving the bones of the wrist.

Kids heal fast as their bones are still soft. Her pitching will not be lessened as long as she allows the bone to heal and does not rush her rehab.

....Suggest you talk to a Sports Medicine Clinic.... Good Luck!

ER would have splinted, stabilized her arm and depending on the fracture; type, displacement, angle, ...and sometimes a splint is best to allow for the swelling to go down. (Swelling is the bodies natural process to protect an injury)

It all depends on who read the x-rays and when.
AN ER Doc can see a fracture...but a Radiologist is the one who has the final say on the x-ray.

Kids get different fractures involving the growth plate that are hard to read and require different treatment than an adult.
Was it a Colles fracture? (Salter-Harris l,ll,lll lV or V)?
(Common in kids)...

The last time I heard E.R.'s don't do casts, which is why they tell you to go see an ortho. Everytime I've had a broken bone, they have always put it in a splint, and then I had to wait until I could get into an orthopedic so they could cast it (if that was their plan of action for treating the injury).

Talk to me about Radiologist .... Radiologist report said all clear on the x-ray, a well respected orthopedist put those same x-rays up and saw several problems. Once pointed out they were very obvious to the laymen.
Thank God we don't belong to an HMO or government rationed healthcare, otherwise we would have been stuck with the misdiagnosis and treatment from the primary care physician.
