The Arc of Southern Maryland will sponsor the 9th Annual Pat Collins Golf Classic, May 26 at the Twin Shield Golf Club. Registration starts at 7:30 a.m. with an 8:30 a.m. shotgun start.

Show Place Arena was the title sponsor for the 2010 tournament, which raised more than $19,000 for programs that support families and individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities. The foursome sponsored by Gail Siegel took the first-place award. Team members were Gail Siegel, Ron Duvall, Andrew Wiley and Chris Fox.

Other winners for the 2010 classic included Steve Garner for the Men’s Longest Drive and Karen Gray for the Women’s Longest Drive. Closest to the Pin competition winners included Harold Herndon and Gail Siegel.

This annual event is held in honor of Pat Collins, a former Arc board president. Collins worked tirelessly for many years to help individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities in Southern Maryland. “The Arc of Southern Maryland sponsors this tournament as a living memorial to my father,” said John Collins, son of Pat Collins. He continued, “those who serve as sponsors, players and supporters of the tournament allow The Arc to carry-on and continue the mission to which my father was so committed.”

Sponsors for the 2011 tournament include Showplace Arena, PNC Bank, Lusby Town Center, First Home Mortgage/Gary Pierpont, Quality Built Homes, Alco Pharmacy, Merrill Lynch/Kevin Murphy, Community Bank of Tri-County, State Farm Insurance/Mike Paxson, Smith Insurance Services, and St. Mary’s Ryken High School. Other donations to support this year’s tournament were made by the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs, T-Bone and Heather, Big B Liquors, Chick-fil-A at First Colony Center and Papa John’s Pizza.

The Arc of Southern Maryland has provided support and services to families and individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities in Southern Maryland for more than 30 years. These services and supports include, but are not limited to providing housing, day programs, working with the Southern Maryland schools systems with the transitional youth program, and employment programs to help individuals with disabilities find meaningful work and career opportunities.
