The Charles County Arts Alliance invites Southern Maryland creators of "Wearable Art" to participate as exhibitors and have their original artworks modeled at the first-ever "Wearable Art" Fashion Show at this year's River Artsfest.

Wearable Art includes artisan-produced jewelry, hand-painted or screened delicate designs on scarves, shawls, shirts or leisure wear. It includes custom-designed and handcrafted purses, hats, shoes, and other accessories, beaded clothing, hand-knitted or crocheted sweaters, and other artist-inspired one-of-a-kind items. It might be unique artistry decorating a baby's bib or be the eye-popping color print decorating a beachwear cover-up. The wearable artworks should be upscale, boutique-quality originals suitable for showcasing in a fashion show, and available for purchase afterwards on the Village Green.

River Artsfest is the largest outdoor arts festival in Charles County and is the Arts Alliance's free gift to the local citizens. Last year, over 35 visual artists and exhibitors were on display on the Village Green and attendance totaled over 1400 people. River Artsfest is now in its 19th year and celebrates all the arts in Charles County: music, visual art, drama, dance and literature. It is set for Saturday, June 11, from 11:00 - 5:00 pm on the Village Green in Indian Head. The Wearable Art Fashion Show will take place in the air-conditioned Pavilion from 2:00 - 3:00 pm, and the models will be student volunteers from local high schools.

"We know there are Charles County residents who create beautiful wearable artworks as gifts to family and friends. We want them to share their wearable art creations with the entire community at this new fashion show at River Artsfest," said Chairperson Cindy Johnson.

MY first thought was "wearable art" "= body paint.....you know.....like the S.I. swimsuit models.....but there aren't THAT many 'round here that look like that.
