The Richard R. Clark Senior Center in La Plata will host an Independence Day Party on Thursday, June 30, from 10:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Bring your dancing shoes and shake a leg to music by DJ Vern. Enjoy a delicious congregate meal with all the 4th of July favorites. Cost is $3, plus generous meal donation.

Join us on Tuesday, July 5, from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the Waldorf Senior Center for a “Rockabilly on the 4th” party filled with fun music, great food, and lots of laughs. The Rocket88 Band will fill the Center with live music. Rockabilly is one of the earliest styles of rock and roll music, and emerged in the early 1950s. Rockabilly is a mix of rock 'n' roll, country, boogie-woogie, swing, and blues. The influence and popularity of the style waned in the 1960s, but during the late 1970s and early 1980s, rockabilly enjoyed a major revival of popularity that has endured to the present. Lunch will be fried chicken, potato salad, baked beans, and watermelon. This event is sponsored by the Charles County Arts Alliance and the Senior Services of Charles County. Cost is $5 per person. Reservations are required by June 29.

On Wednesday, July 13, there will be a Red, White & Blues BBQ at the Indian Head Senior Center! Come out and enjoy blues music and down-home BBQ, potato salad, coleslaw, watermelon, and ice cream surprise cake. There will be door prizes and blues trivia, also. Don’t miss the fun! This event will be held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. The party fee is $5 per person.
