mission22
.....
I was meeting a friend to see If he would like my dog in the parking lot. My car was running for 20+ minutes with Auto AC on 66º. I leave my car, AC, and lights ON while I run into the store to let him know I was there; I took every precaution to ensure my dog was safe and comfortable.
It's a push button so I also locked my car. I was 3 minutes max inside the store.
I return to my car with my friend and take my dog out on her leash so he could meet her. Not too much later, a Sheriff's Deputy pulled up and was asking who the dog belonged to. He said they received an animal cruelty call about my dog being left inside of a running, locked, cold vehicle.
The deputy mentioned that he was not even a quarter mile away when he responded (townhouse community right behind the Kohl's shopping center) and looked at the situation and said that the cruelty call was "unfounded." My dog also had easy access to water inside the car, which was also within sight of any passerby.
Then, of course, another deputy arrives and a state trooper. They all decided they had better things to do then deal with a ridiculous, unfounded animal cruelty call.
I would have just liked the opportunity to talk with the person that decided to call the police when it was obvious my car was still on for a reason. Even if it wasn't, the deputy said that it would still be a waste of time since it was overcast and breezy. This person cared enough to call but didn't care enough to stick around and see if the dog was really ok or not? Or talk with the authorities to see why they left without doing anything.
So, I would like to thank the Sheriff's department and State Troopers for having the patience to deal with absolutely oblivious and ignorant people. To the person that called them, I would like you to open up your eyes and think before reacting and wasting officer's time when there are real criminals.
I did my best to hide my true anger.
