Obama Isn’t A Fan Of Truckers, Apparently…

Does he like ANY industry besides the government? Honestly.

He hates corporations, he hates farmers, and now he hates truckers. According to the source article, Obama signed an order to make the trucking industry meet more “stringent fuel-economy targets.”

Translation? Make truckers pay out their assular areas and eventually run them out of business.

President Obama announced the first-ever fuel efficiency and greenhouse gas standards for long-haul rigs, work trucks, and other heavy duty vehicles Tuesday, the second mileage pact with manufacturers in less than a month.

The regulations call for reductions on fuel consumption and greenhouse gas emissions by 2018 of 9 to 23 percent, depending on the type of vehicle. Trucks and other heavy vehicles make up only 4 percent of the domestic vehicle fleet, but given the distance they travel, the time they spend idling and their low fuel efficiency, they end up consuming about 20% of all vehicle fuel, according to the Union of Concerned Scientists.

He's driving this country into the ground with his ideas! He needs to go back to organizing volunteers and leave our country's infrastructure alone! Does he not realized it's worked so far? Why is he trying to re-invent the wheel all the time? It sometimes feels like he's quietly trying to change our country into a socialistic state, and his followers are asleep at the wheel, mesmerized by his white line fever. I refuse to drink the Kool aid.

more than a few have opined that Obama is trying to crash the Republic, so the socialists can point and say;

'see it doesn't work, people are too selfish or stupid to make the correct choices, the government needs to control more, then it will work, better'

The trucking industry does a lot to try to increase efficiency on their own. It's pretty silly to think that the only reason that the rigs aren't more fuel efficient is because the government hasn't mandated it.

My diesel mechanic explained to me that the gov't regulations imposed to regulate emmissions have had a direct impact on fuel mileage. Imposing even more restrictions on emmissions will result in even lower fuel mileage.

It's ok...they are also imposing higher fuel economy. :rolleyes:

From one IN the trucking industry... we pay enough taxes just to keep our trucks on the road to more than cover the impact. No one outside the industry has a clue how much it costs just to keep up with the Highway Use tax, IFTA taxes and quarterly reports, tags renewals which are HUUUUGGGGEEEE compared to those in automobiles. There is so much regulation in the industry, to add more requirements will run many out of business, including us. I'd like to see what will happen to the economy when trucking is no more!
