They call me ... Sarcasmo
SMCPS employees were told to get their stuff out of the schools and go home. Open house at Dent was shut down after we evac'ed the school and the call from BOE came a little later.

They did find some small issues at Dent (cosmetic only) so I'm sure that there is a good possibility that other buildings suffered some damage as well.

OPINION ALERT!
I'd be willing to bet that until all the school buildings are checked no one will be allowed in them.

NOT OFFICIAL BUT....Cheer coach was just there and said Chopticon was okay.

I am thinking everthing will be held off as being "officially released statements" until they can inspect - and if there is an aftershock - reinspect.

WE were in the middle of orientation at White Marsh and also had to leave. I just got a pre-recorded call from the principal and it said school is on unless we hear otherwise.

Ridge E.S. Parking lot was filled with cars twenty minutes ago when I passed by. Looked as if open house was still on. We were sent out of our building at work for thirty minutes and then they let us go.

Stating that all schools have been inspected and are fine - so schools are open for business as normal tomorrow.

In light of the 5.9 magnitude earthquake that we experienced today (August 23, 2011), school system personnel inspected each building in the school system to ensure they were structurally safe for our students and staff. We are pleased to report that all buildings passed the inspection and our schools will open, as scheduled, tomorrow, August 24, 2011. However, we will continue our inspections and take needed action if additional concerns are revealed. We will work with our school crisis response teams to prepare them to respond to any aftershocks that might occur over the next several days and weeks. Our primary goal is the safety of our students and staff. We look forward to a great beginning to a great year! Thank you for your support.
