Public Invited to Share Opinions on Proposed County Slogan

The Charles County Commissioners invite the public to share their opinions and comments on a proposed new Charles County slogan and commercial. Citizens are encouraged to take an online survey at http://www.charlescounty.org/apps/ccquestionnaire/public/questionnaire.jsp.

The proposed slogan, "Maryland's Southern Shore," emphasizes the county's rural character and desirable location, two aspects that people know and love about Charles County. The slogan was conceived by Commissioner Ken Robinson (District 1) and was presented to the full Board of Commissioners during a recent meeting session. The Board agreed that the proposed slogan should be presented to the public for input and suggestions.

The survey will be available until January 31, 2012.

Doesn't the term "The Shore" kind of bring to mind a notion of sandy beaches and boardwalks?
The beaches of western Charles County are non-existent except at low tide and what you will find on those beaches is a lesson in 21st century filth and disgust: big plastic bottles filled with urine, likely thrown from DC bridges upriver, lots of tampon applicators in lovely pastel hues, hundreds of plastic Mike's Baitshop, Gambrills, MD worm containers, tires, buckets, highway road cones, big blue barrels, tennis balls, shoes, rusty propane tanks...etc.
Yep, sights such as these, along with useage closures due to blue-green algae blooms and high coliform bacteria counts, will certainly encourage folks to experience the fine rural aspects of the County and bring the green $$$ of the eco-tourists back year after year...Southern Shore...sheesh...
Here's a suggestion: why don't you Commissioners volunteer to lead clean-up teams here in Nanjemoy, like at Mallow's Bay or Douglas Point or Purse State Park, for the annual Potomac River Watershed Clean Up on April 12, 2012, before you adopt some inane slogan touting Maryland's "Southern Shore"...

Why don't you send Debra Davis an email and ask her if she'll volunteer to help?

Marylands Southern Shore to what?

The Eastern Shore is so named because it is on the Eastern Shore of the Chesapeake Bay. If I remember correctly, Charles County doesn't have any borders along the Bay, so where are they getting this name from?

The Eastern Shore also has ocean front. A shoreline is a shoreline no matter what shoreline it is, lake, river, bay or ocean, but I can see how that term in reference to Charles would be deceiving to potential tourists.

I think "Southern Shore" is stupid. Just call it Southern Maryland like usual. :duh:

Not embracing Diversity people!

remember, CC is hosting their diversity & tolerance for a changing county seminar thingy coming up....
To be cutting edge we have to acknowledge that
a) Latinos will likely dominate the county by 2050.
b) Our PG friends are here to stay: spawning & dismantling western civilization.

so,...to accommodate these two promising trends....

Something like.."Buenos Vistas, hang with your homeys"
