Nomination Period Extended for St. Mary's County Commission for Women Woman of the Year and Woman of Tomorrow Awards

The nomination deadline for the St. Mary's County Commission for Women 2012 Woman of the Year and 2012 Woman of Tomorrow awards has been extended to January 27. The winners will be announced and all nominees will be recognized at the Commission's annual Women's History Month Banquet on Thursday, March 22, 2012, at the Dr. James Forrest Career and Technology Center, Leonardtown.

The Woman of the Year award recognizes exemplary community service and the Woman of Tomorrow award is given to a high school-aged, young woman for exemplary community service. You may submit a nominee for either award or both. To request a nomination packet, visit the Commission's website at http://www.co.saint-marys.md.us/voluntr/women.asp; or send an email to commissionforwomen(at)stmarysmd.com; or call 301-475-4200, ext. 1689.

If you would like to attend the banquet, the cost is $20 per person and includes dinner. Reservations must be made by March 1, 2012.

Proceeds from the banquet benefit the Jane Hale Sypher Scholarship at the College of Southern Maryland Leonardtown, which supports a non-traditional student who is a single parent or displaced homemaker.

In addition to recognizing women for outstanding community service, the Commission will present Everland Holland with a Lifetime Achievement Award at the banquet. Ms. Holland was a charter member of the St. Mary's County Commission for women and has worked tirelessly on numerous boards for charitable organizations. Ms. Holland is scheduled to accept the award in person.
