According to the guys that are over there, that statue is a lot more true to what's going on than the crap you hear on the news. American soldiers are like rock stars over there - they get chased after by kids, salaamed by adult men, hugged by old women. The discrepancy between what the troops are saying vs. what the media is saying is just wild.

Most of what I see about Iraq in the news is along the lines of "American soldier dies in roadside bomb attack." I think the media does this because it can't think of any way to cover the war, other than to personalize the deaths. They assume that people only want to know which of their friends and neighbors lost a loved one.
