SMHEC presents Four Countries in Four Weeks

The Southern Maryland Higher Education Center (SMHEC), in cooperation with the Maryland Office of the Secretary of State’s Cultural Affairs Office and five embassies in Washington D.C., has been hosting an annual international film festival with the showing of five films (movies not documentaries) from five countries are now down to four Wednesday Evenings. The showings are FREE.

Each film will be shown at 6:30 P.M., in the SMHEC Center Hall at SMHEC, the final four are this Wednesday Evening, February 22nd, featuring Japan, Wednesday, February 29th, featuring Austria, Wednesday, March 7th featuring Sri Lanka and the final film on Wednesday, March 14th, featuring Turkey. Attendees are invited to a reception following the films hosted by SMHEC, also free.

The remaining four films are Wednesday, February 22, Japan, “Hula Girls”; Wednesday, February 29, Austria, “The Inheritors”; Wednesday, March 7, Sri Lanka, “Tender Trap” and Wednesday, March 14, Turkey, “Ice Cream I Scream.”

The films have been selected by the participating embassies and are expected to bridge international understanding and to foster respect, trust, hope and peace in the world. The films also reflect the participating nation’s best acting, directing and screen story as reflected in national “best picture”, “best actress” or “best actor” awards, or submissions as “best foreign film” for an Oscar Award.
