Score 1 for Al Qaeda

Not dead yet.
Stupid and gutless. Nobody seems to want to stand up for what's right anymore, just go along with the easy path and capitulate.

Cowards!! :burning: So after June or July when they pull all their troops out of Iraq, whats to say that they don't get bombed again?!?! I can only imagine that Bin-Laden is celebrating this morning!

From Slate magazine, so take it for what it's worth...

But the Washington Post notes in its lead, USA Today notes in its Cover Story, and NYT mentions in yet another article inside, that a more determining factor may have been outrage at the government's tone-deaf insistence—out of what some said was political self-interest—on blaming Basque separatist group ETA for the attack.

Los terroristas han ganado ya.

Two reasons to weep for spain within a single week. If this single terrorist act has caused a complete sweeping change in government, it should energize the ETA, because now they know that terrorism can produce results.

Maybe there will be a country of Basque by the end of March.

Every time I read this, I keep coming to the same conclusion - they voted out the party in power because they're saying "if we don't p*ss them off, maybe they'll leave us alone". And much as I *don't* want to conclude this, I keep thinking .... 'cowards'.

You know, when I was in school, up until high school, I got in a lot of fights. And I learned two things - capitulating and hoping they'll go away has one definite and constant effect - it ENCOURAGES the behavior. And the other is, if you fight back - EVEN IF YOU LOSE - they will almost always go away. (If you win, they never come back).

What disturbs me most about this, is this is not the Spanish GOVERNMENT doing this - it's the people.

Is ALL of Europe like this? Will they ALL cave in easily to terrorists?

They all rolled over exposing their soft white underbelly pretty easy for Herr Adolf not so very long ago.

Are my fears the same as a lot of you; that we will be next in line to the terrorists the end of October or first of November? Very scary to think about.

That never worked for me. If someone was picking on me and we got into a fight, that only convinced that one person to stop. The other kids who were picking on me just kept it up. I often wondered what it would take to make those kids scared of me.

If Bin Laden's head is not twisted around backwards and shoved up his dialysis machine by then, he'll be laughing at the paranoid lunatics running around like madmen.

I have a feeling that "heightened alert" will not begin to describe what October and November will look like around here.

Well, I hate to put it this way, and I don't condone this sort of thing,b ut if you want to make other people scared of you - you don't fight someone until they leave you alone.

You pummel them. You make an bloody pulpy example of them and ask around who else want some?

I wanted to do worse than that. This may not have been healthy, but if I had had a gun or preferably a flamethrower, they would have been dead. By that point, I wouldn't have felt otherwise, because I had had too many years of being called "retard" and "******" by kids I didn't even know.

I fully agree that President Bush's approach towards the terrorists has held back more strikes against us, though we have to assume that they will try again, and are especially planning the same fate for us come a couple of days before Election Day. I don't fear for myself, because I will not be bullied.

All I'll say is that Spain deserves everything it's about to get.

There's your answer, Tonio.

I already said that I did stand up and fight the bullies one on one. For some reason it didn't convince the other bullies to leave me alone.

And they've pretty much been doing it ever since for whoever else comes along.

European countries are a lot more Socialistic than the US - is that what's happened? Their government has taken their pride away and now they could care less?

Well, if you ever get into an argument with a European, you now know how easy it will be to get them to cave. Just stare at them, or stamp your foot in their direction, and they'll fall over into a fetus position and beg you not to hurt them.

All I can say is that I'm glad my branch of the family tree left Europe when all the countries over there still possessed a modicum of intestinal fortitude and a shred of dignity.

I wonder if we shouldn't take the initiative, such as taking bin Laden's loved ones hostage and threatening to kill them if he doesn't surrender in 12 hours.
