The Newtowne Players Present Bertolt Brecht’s The Caucasian Chalk Circle

In The Caucasian Chalk Circle, by Bertolt Brecht, a kitchen maid, Grusha, has the seemingly unfortunate destiny of caring for an abandoned baby of royal blood (eventually becoming a better mother than its natural parents), while a village recorder, named Azdak, plays an essential part in deciding Grusha’s fate. Eighteen actors will take on almost 70 roles in this intense, tragic, funny and beautiful tale of wisdom and humanity. There will be singing, dancing, magic and romance.
