Mass Incarceration and Criminal Justice in America : The New Yorker
The accelerating rate of incarceration over the past few decades is just as startling as the number of people jailed: in 1980, there were about two hundred and twenty people incarcerated for every hundred thousand Americans; by 2010, the number had more than tripled, to seven hundred and thirty-one.
How Many People Are In the United States
"The population of the USA is over 311 800 000 people"
So if in 2011 our population was 311 800 000 and about 731 people are in jail out of every 100,000 that makes the amount of people in jail, well, a butt ton. I couldn't find an article with just males but I think the book is a good idea. That or parents teaching kids that doing crime is bad. I guess that would require another book though.
