Health Department Announces Available Funding for Nitrogen Reduction Advanced Treatment Septic Systems

(January 25, 2013) The St. Mary's County Health Department's Division of Environmental Health has announced that grant funding is still available through the Bay Restoration Fund (BRF) to assist property owners with installation costs for Nitrogen Reduction Advanced Treatment Units (ATU). The grant cycle will expire June 30, 2013 which allows residents time to apply for installation of ATUs on their property. All property owners in St. Mary's County are eligible to receive grant funding. Monies received from this grant program do not need to be reimbursed to the State. Residential properties, including second residences, might benefit from recent changes to the BRF Program which may provide up to 100% coverage of the cost of the ATU.

Applications for funding requests can be downloaded from the St. Mary's County Health Department's website at www.smchd.org and faxed, mailed or emailed to the health department. Applying for the BRF grant program does not obligate residents to proceed with the installation of the ATU units, but it will assist Environmental Health staff in determining the next steps to obtain grant funding.
