Miller & Dyson Alter Calvert County’s Election Pro

Calvert County takes it up the shorts again compliments Miller and Dyson.
They have taken it upon themselves to tell Calvert County citizens how their commissioners will be elected. This is just another shot from the state of Md. in their war with rural counties at Calvert. I am sure it could not be motivated by the fact that all 5 commissioners are republicans, and this is after our state dems gerrymandered the election lines all over the state for other elections.

Best quote in article.

Delegate Mark Fisher commented, “ “Senators Mike Miller & Roy Dyson are the architects of the most gerrymandered state in the United States. Now they intend to bully Calvert County. Miller & Dyson’s manipulation of the election process in Maryland has resulted in their attack on the 2nd Amendment; the largest gas tax increase in Maryland’s history; and Income tax increases on working families & retirees. The only election process Miller & Dyson understand is bullying and tyranny!”

This was done as payback for Calvert electing 5 Republican Commissioners last time. The original plan was to have 5 districts which would have made three of the current Commisioners have to run against each other for reelection since they would all live in the same District.

Her current protests notwithstanding, Susan Shaw (R-Dip####) supported the five district plan because she doesn't like, nor get along with, Nutter and Weems, the other two Commisioners impacted by a five district plan. And as payback for them ousting her as Commision President. She secretly likes the current plan but can't publicly say this. Make no mistake, Miller and Dyson got the idea from her.

Wow. How can they come in and tell a county how to run it's government? It is so blatant and scary, that they have no qualms in doing so. Yes, bullying and tyranny are the perfect words to be used here. Between our state and federal government, it just gets more sickening by the day. I don't want to know anymore, but I do want to know. Yuck!

Interesting. Thank you. It seems Shaw fits in quite nicely with the "agenda". Her voice is so annoying, frankly, I am surprised she hasn't met some mysterious fate before now.

Calvert, you have been gerrymandered; as in screwed! Let's see, now, the public votes, officials are elected, the opposition doesn't like it, so they change it. Where is our Republic going? Oh, I forgot, it is being gerrymandered out of existence. It is, also, quite convenient that Obama moved the Census Bureau into the WH, early on. Bullying and tyranny are not just limited to Maryland.

I don't know what "class" of county St. Mary's and Calvert are considered but under Maryland law we are fortunate to be able to elect our own government. Tax increases and most regulations have to be generated in Annapolis.

In most areas the zoning is a local function, for us, it's dictated by the state.

If not outright, the state uses funding to "encourage" the counties to "do the right thing".

Where I grew up we elected the school board, the school board ran the schools, they set the budget and set the millage (tax rate). They decided when and where to build a school. The state funding was purely a formula, N students get X dollars. There was no begging the state for funding. You wanted it done, you faced the people who elected you. Not some faceless politician from an area I have no clue about.

BTW, that's called "centralized" and is the hallmark of socialism

This deserves more attention than what it's getting. It's not the changes so much as they way they were bullied through.

And we just....accept it.

Good thing Cher isn't really dead or I don't know what I'd do with myself.

Two sides of the same coin there, yeah?

On one, yet another thing going on with our government that just doesn't sound right, that, it seems, just throws the rules out the window and two, the other side, all the distractions we have in life that act as a salve to keep us from running to the barricades in protest.

You and I have a long standing disagreement regarding the intellectual capacity of our fellows and their ability comprehend what's going on in the world. Liberals who champion free speech and human rights on one hand, then turn around and sob uncontrollably over the death of Hugo Chavez. Conservatives who rail about the shredding of the Constitution, then want to vote to keep gays from being able to marry each other.

I don't think we so much "have" distractions as we "make" them because we don't fully understand why gerrymandering and one-party rule are alarming, but we definitely know that Cher did a couple of great songs in the 70s and wore strange clothes, plus her daughter is now her son. So forget that politics crap - Honey Boo Boo is on!

OK but, there was a day, long before Cher and Honey Boo Boo where people who, in the main, were nowhere near as educated as we are today, cared very much about politics. It was entertainment to go listen to orators and debates. So, what happened? There were certainly other entertainments in their day, circus, plays, etc. Our civic life was more robust in our lifetimes.

Has diversions taken away our attention or has the ever growing complexities of our politics turned us off?

Note the bolded word. All these crazies who show up at rallies dressed as vaginas - do you seriously think they are politically aware?

As a Civil War buff, you know that people were no more interested in politics then than they are today, but they were very interested in being entertained. The Battle of Bull Run actually had spectators that lined up with picnic baskets to watch the "festivities".

Now I have to go re-read Shelby Foote and see if he makes any mention, that I may have missed the first three time, of people dressed up as vagina's running around the battlefield making vague statements of self awareness, personal liberty and free contraception...

Huh?

Do you need to re-read my post or do I need to be clearer?

Do I now need some sort of warning sign in order to just suddenly start free associating, go off on a tangent? Is there some new SOMD Off Topic Regulation Procedure I wasn't told about? Buried in all the 'terms of use' agreement I checked 'yes' to?

I'm an American, damn it, and if we can have Barack H. Obama as president, I don't see how we can rule ANYTHING out.

Attica! Attica!

Plus, I am on an antibiotic for sinus infection and I may as well be on the moon right now.

That's what you get for not reading the fine print.
