Arial Spraying for Spring Canker Worm!

I live in the vicinity of Knight Life off Rt 235. I have called a couple of arial companies for a quote on crop dusting for these buggers. If we don't do something now - next year will be even worse, (although I can't imagine that being the case!)

Is there anyone else adjacent to this area who would like to get their property sprayed from above by the company who can give me the best price?

Stop over-reacting to a minor issue. Read this - May Tree and Shrub Tips | University of Maryland Extension and in the section that they discuss the cankerworms click on the link to learn how to contol them.

Happy Gardening!

MINOR? Come on over to my place, park your car and have lunch on my patio or deck or just sit out under (or even close to) one of the hundreds of oaks surrounding my house just to enjoy the weather. THEN tell me how minor this problem is.

The d@mn things (and their nasty disgusting POOP) completely cover my house, cars, trailers, trucks, barn etc. etc. My vehichles look like they're covered in tobacco juice and maggots. Every surface is completely covered in seething, writhing caterpillers and caterpiller shiat. I have to wipe off every door handle before i think of touching it anywhere.

I've been watching them on the property for several years and each succeeding year they've gotten worse. There is absolutely no reason they won't get even worse next year. We have hundreds and of oaks surrounding our house - not a leaf in sight. I have no roses, no crepe myrtle, no poppies no nothing - while the trees might come back (maybe in July) the crepes and roses are already dead. This hasn't been the environment for just a few days or even a week - it's been like this for THREE weeks and there's another two or three weeks left. They've eaten absolutely everything. Their poop dropping from the trees sounds like misting rain 24 hours a day.

DUDE......Come on over and Monitor my hundreds if not thousands of trees which are hundreds of feet tall "to determine if control is necessary". Then YOU tell ME how 'minor' this is and how it can be taken care of without intervention. Nothing in the link that you posted says this is something "minor" nor does it tell me how to "control" them considering the forestry guy even took pictures. He's never seen these things so bad in all the years he's been watching them.
Minor?.....:burning: yeah RIIIIGHT nothing "minor" about this mess.

Inchworms infest area but nature will take its course - Richmond Times Dispatch: Inchworms-infest-area-but-nature-will-take-its-course

ANOTHER TWO FREAKING WEEKS.
"Chris Asaro, a forest-health specialist for the Virginia Division of Forestry, said the outbreak is occurring in Chesterfield, Henrico, Hanover, Powhatan and Amelia counties in many of the same areas where cankerworms were a problem last year."

5 to 6 weeks of raining caterpiller shiat covering every square inch of my 26 acres plus the 140+/- acres surrounding me every year is MINOR? I think not. There is no way on God's green earth that this can be easily controlled or contained. Continued attacks like this devastate the tree population exactly the same way the gypsy moth does.

The link posted says 'no control is necessary for established trees' on the first page, then the linked page tells the reader to Monitor trees to determine if control is necessary. HUH........

It can't be worse than this. Some folks came over yesterday from PA and they had gypsy moth - and he said this was worse than his place. :frown:

Red/white Oak, beech, walnut and Maple seem to be affected the worst. And NO you can't buz them and have the wood I want them to stay ALIVE....:frown:

Where is the cheapest place to buy duct tape and I have to get this tanglefoot stuff. I guess I'll be very busy come September.

I just wondered about the hundreds of feet tall comment.

I feel so bad for you, and what these worms are doing to your property. We have some, but nothing near what you are describing.

You are absolutely correct, my area is the same and so is the damage. I really think the lazies at MDE haven't got out from behind their desks and really know how bad the worms are this year.

Now I have more dark colored worms with a black stripe. Not seeing to many green worms, I'm wondering if the dark worms are gypsy moths?

They fly away.

That may work for a a few hours or a day depending on how close the trees are to your outdoor living / hang out areas. I do the same with the blower and not much longer they're right back.
