Peter Disowns Jesus

Luke 22:54 Then seizing him, they led him away and took him into the house of the high priest. Peter followed at a distance. 55 And when some there had kindled a fire in the middle of the courtyard and had sat down together, Peter sat down with them. 56 A servant girl saw him seated there in the firelight. She looked closely at him and said, “This man was with him.”

57 But he denied it. “Woman, I don’t know him,” he said.

58 A little later someone else saw him and said, “You also are one of them.”

“Man, I am not!” Peter replied.

59 About an hour later another asserted, “Certainly this fellow was with him, for he is a Galilean.”

60 Peter replied, “Man, I don’t know what you’re talking about!” Just as he was speaking, the rooster crowed. 61 The Lord turned and looked straight at Peter. Then Peter remembered the word the Lord had spoken to him: “Before the rooster crows today, you will disown me three times.” 62 And he went outside and wept bitterly.

Back at the Upper Room, Peter was sure he would stand by the Savior forever. He had no idea. I can see why he denied Jesus... being one of the disciples might have been a death sentence for Peter. Still.... it didn't make things any easier for him when Jesus looked Peter in the eye as the rooster crowed.

How did Jesus know that Peter would deny him? How did Jesus describe what was about to happen in such bitter detail? Jesus knew what He was about to go through. He knew that Peter would have to deny Him. Still, Jesus allowed it.

Peter was broken hearted. Most people know what it's like to put your faith in someone or something and then let them down. Peter put his faith in a man whom he knew to be the Son of God.... and Peter let Jesus down. Imagine the devastation Peter felt. Jesus looked Peter right in the eye.... this has got to be the worst "I told you so" in history.

Back from New Hampshire.... My daughter and son-in-law are dealing really well with a young son and a new born daughter. They take shifts getting up with the new one and playing with their son. It's a great family. I had a great time.

I am so happy to be home tho.... back on my own computer.... back in the Gospels.... back with my hubby.... Life is so awesome!
