...what a fitting name for one of the stores involved in this case!

Nice of them to indict at least one person who (by virtue of the name) originated in the United States.

Not to worry. Florida is on top of it, I think. Not only do the feds give billions away for food stamp fraud, they pay states millions to uncover it so even more can be wasted in the future.

Florida task force cites higher food stamp fraud rate than USDA « Watchdog.org

Florida’s SNAP expenditure exceeded $5 billion last year, a figure that has tripled since 2008, when the budget was $1.8 million. The number seeking assistance also increased. Last year, nearly 3.5 million people were enrolled in the program.

The strike force report says fraud is an ongoing and pervasive problem within the SNAP program, both nationwide and within Florida. It said that out of nearly 800,000 nationwide fraud investigations conducted in 2010, 51,000 were carried out in Florida. About 18,000 of those resulted in termination, denial of benefits or conviction of fraud.

That equates to a 35 percent conviction rate in the Sunshine State compared to 27 percent national average.

Fl is at least 25% better at identifying fraud. Now all the feds have to do is pay up what is owed the state, not just the measly $8 mil..

In My Opinion
The other night when I was at Maryland live feeding money into those slot machines, I had the joy of standing in line to wait my turn to cash in a win slip.
An African American woman came up to the front of the line, cut in on everyone else then proceeded to use her EBT card to pull 100.00 out to gamble with.

Now I have to ask, why should these leaches be allowed to purchase anything, or take out cash with taxpayer money.

I think if they are going to suck off of the workers in this country, they should suffer and only be allowed the basic requirements.
entertainment is not a requirement.

You said nothing about it to her? I would have, and demanded the casino identify the person and contact the local authorities. Stealing is stealing, anywhere. It's all on video.

It is illegal in Fl. Seems like the casino, and your state, and you and others like you just don't care enough to squawk about it. Hey, it's only your money, and mine, right?

Gov. Rick Scott signs bill banning EBT cards at casinos, strip clubs | News - Home

At least Fl did something about it.

Md appears to be right at the top in EBT fraud. Either state your case - LOUDLY - or just say nothing at all.

Do something about it, or don't complain.

The California legislature went through this a year or two ago. They really didn't want to stop the use of EBT cards at massage parlors, liquor stores, and on the 'call girl' websites. Not sure they ever finally banned these, however.

That is not just their problem, it is our problem as well. Do you think your taxes are not going to paying citizens or non-citizens welfare of other states?

What crime here? You can withdrawl money from the "cash assistance", it's a debit card. Like it or not, no crime here. Cash assistance is different than the food assistance. You use the same card for both, depending on if you have both or just FS.

I really like it when the government obtains sufficient evidence to prosecute the crooks who are defrauding the various programs. What I don't like are those Republican's screaming hysterically about voter fraud and never presenting any credible evidence thereof.

I agree, I feel sorry for who I ever catch abusing EBT funds. They will be called out like alarm sounded and everyone within ear shot will know what a leach they are.
