I want to take a moment to remind people that if someone calls you and says you have been selected to receive a free grant from the federal government, but that you need to send them money to release the grant.. IT IS A SCAM!!!!!
As soon as they ask for your personal information, remind them that the federal government is currently CLOSED (although some of us have to work) and that this is a scam. HANG. UP. THE. PHONE. if you didn't apply for a grant you don't qualify for one. and most important.. if it's a FREE grant, and it's one you've applied for, you don't have to PAY for it.
I guess because of the shut down, my co-worker and I have received about 7-10 calls a day regarding this 'free grant'. It's especially sad when you tell them it's a scam and they tell you they've given out bank information.
