Armed robbery at Sunflower Cleaners in Prince Frederick

I think this place is about a half a mile from the MSP and CCSO offices, during rush hour traffic.

On December 18, 2013 at approximately 5:43 pm, Trooper Barlow from the Prince Frederick Barrack arrived at Sunflower Cleaners located at Central Square Drive in Prince Frederick in reference to a 911 call for an armed robbery.
The victim advised an African American male approximately 5’8” tall with a slim build entered Sunflower Cleaners. The suspect was wearing a dark in color jacket with a white mask or t-shirt covering the lower portion of his face.
The suspect displayed a handgun and demanded money. The suspect then fled the business with an undisclosed amount of money. Troopers and Calvert County Deputies canvassed the area. A Calvert County Sheriff’s Office K-9 also responded to the scene.
Crime Scene Technician G. Crump responded to the scene for processing. Troopers and Deputies from the Calvert Investigative Team responded to the scene and assumed the investigation. Anyone with information about this crime is asked to contact the Maryland State Police (410)535-1400 or the Calvert County Sheriff’s Office (410)535-2800.

Wow. I don't use dry cleaners very often, but Sunflower PF is where I go to try to help the business because Spot Out in Fox Run gets so much business. The owner is really nice. I am glad he, nor no one else was hurt. Subway in Sunderland just last week, and now this robbery. I hope it doesn't become a trend.

Arrest Made in Multiple Armed Robberies | Southern Maryland News Net

Throughout November and December several commercial armed robberies occurred in the MD Rt 2 area of Sunderland, Maryland.

On Wednesday, December 18, 2013, an additional commercial armed robbery occurred in Prince Frederick.

Detectives from the Calvert Investigative Team developed a possible suspect based on evidence obtained at each of the crime scenes.

On Friday, December 20, 2013 detectives recovered a vehicle which contained additional evidence. This evidence led detectives to a residence located on Gertrude Drive, in Sunderland.

As sheriff, I am grateful for the outstanding work by the detectives from the Calvert Investigative Team.
- Sheriff Mike Evans
Joshua Terrell Trippett, 17 of Sunderland, was located within the residence and arrested.

Further evidence was obtained at this time that indicates that the juvenile was responsible for all of the recent armed robberies.

The case remains open at this time and Trippett has been charged as an adult.

On Saturday, December 21, Trippett appeared before District Court Commissioner, Benjamin Miller, and bail was set at $100,000.

No mention at all in that article that it was the LaPlata Town Police who broke the case. Two Laplata officers responded for a suspicious vehicle in a parking lot. They arrived and the windows were so smoked up from weed they couldnt see who was inside, they ordered the suspects out, and the driver took off running. They let him flee, because they had the car and his cellphone, the other suspects of course said they only knew the guys first name. Well they impounded the car and believe it or not the fleeing suspect called LaPlata PD the next morning asking about how to retrive his car. At that time he gave them all the info they asked for and developed who he was. When they ran the tag it was stolen and then that is when the connection to the robberies was made. Calvert then came and took the car to their crimelab. They could have at least mentioned with the help of info from the Laplata Police Dept. they were able close this case.
