Commuter Question

I have a great job opportunity in Chevy Chase, Maryland; however, I am still trying to decide if the commute would be worth it in the long run. I'm in Calvert County. I know there are Keller buses that travel into D.C, but not anywhere else. It looks like my choices are to drive or take the metro to the Chevy Chase stop and from there take a metro bus. Does anyone make a similar commute and have any suggestions?

Just a thought.
Drive to either New Carrolton or Branch avenue Metro.
Branch Ave Green Line) to Metro Center ,get on Red line to Shady Grove and get off at Chevy Chase
New Carrolton (Orange Line) to Metro Center

Commute will be bad no matter what you do. Metro is best solution because if you drive, traffic/weather always an issue. Taking bus has same problem. Metro is not generally affected by either.
I live in Waldorf and commute to Rosslynn, so I do this every workday. You get used to it.
Less expensive also.

I bus it from St. Mary's to Metro Center and then metro to Silver Spring or I just drive to work. You are not going to find easy public transit to Chevy Chase. Parking is going to be expensive in C.C. uness it's provided by the job. The commute from 495/95 to Conneticut Ave will take as long as the commute from your house to 495/95. If you drive, learn the surface roads so you can get around the backups on 495 after the 495/95 interchange.

My suggestion is bus it to downtown and transfer to metro and do whatever else you have to do to not have to drive in.

The only commuter bus from Calvert County is the Route #902, whose map and schedule are shown here http://mta.maryland.gov/commuter-bus.

If you get off the #902 bus at "Metro Center" you can transfer there to a red-line train going directly to Friendship Heights station (the destination sign will say "Shady Grove"). (Friendship Heights is another name for Chevy Chase). I would NOT get off the bus a little sooner to take a blue or orange-line train, because at that point in D.C. the blue and orange trains are generally packed full already. Information about metrorail is here http://www.wmata.com .

You can also try registering for a carpool or vanpool here http://www.commuterconnections.org

low 5... hi 5......
that commute would suck...going into dc or nova via the killer bus is very tolerable... just remember when it rains or is crappy out... forget about it
