NYPD and another "neck restraint"

...this time on a pregnant woman for illegally grilling on the sidewalk.

A seven-months pregnant woman released photos on Monday that she said show an NYPD cop putting her in a chokehold after officers accused her and her family of illegally grilling on the sidewalk.

The images, pulled from a cell phone video of the incident, shows what appears to be an officer with his arm around the throat of Rosan Miller, 27, as he tried to place her under arrest.

Mayor De Blasio insists "the law is the law" (for main street, not wall street anyway...) and that the NYPD would continue to strictly enforce petty laws like the ones that led to this pregnant woman’s encounter, Eric Garner's death, and Jahmiel Cuffee's encounter with police. The city's police commissioner, Bill Bratton, added that respecting police and correcting your behavior when they engage you is what democracy’s all about.

Chris Chris Chris... :heavysigh:

From the story:

Officers showed up at a Bradford Street in East New York home at around 7:30 p.m. Saturday, where they spotted Miller’s husband, Moses, grilling on a public sidewalk before asking him to relocate to the back yard, cops said.

The man refused to hand over his ID and began to walk away before cops tried to grab him and place him under arrest, cops said.

That’s when Rosan and her brother, John Miller, started slapping at police preventing them from making the arrest.

So the cop did not just roll up and start choking them out. In fact the pregnant "lady" started the physical confrontation. Does the fact that she's pregnant give her the right to attack police officers, and they just have to stand there and take it?

But... but... but... they were just breaking petty laws... :frown:

It never ceases to amaze me how folks think we should just look the other way if someone is "only breaking a petty law".

They're just criminal so they should have been shot right on the spot.:sarcasm:

The comment about looking the other way when it comes to petting crimes is ironic, how many favor looking the other way for minor drug possession/use and consider that a petty crime no worthy of enforcement?

Should the pregnant woman interfered with the cops, nope, should they have used a choke hold on her, nope, should grilling on the sidewalk be a crime, nope, are our laws becoming more restrictive and oppressive by the day, yep.

As I’ve said, according to IR and others here, we are all criminals and according to Vrai, should be taken out right on the spot.

If some douche was grilling on the sidewalk in front of their house, pretty sure they wouldn't feel like that was a "petty law".

What irritates me the most is the misleading synopsis. This woman WAS NOT choked for grilling on the sidewalk; she was choked for physically attacking a police officer. Big difference.

Well, what irritates me is that the officer wasn't there to arrest them or even give them a ticket for grilling in front of their house. He stopped to tell them that they couldn't grill on a public sidewalk and that they needed to move it to the back yard. I have absolutely no problem with him doing exactly what his job is to do.

Now what pisses me off is their reaction which was to physically and verbally assault the officer.

Now what really makes me shake my head is that people expected him to just stand there and take it.... WTF?

There are a number of things to be pissed off about with this story. The pregnant woman getting choked isn't one of them, in my opinion.

Who said that cop was suppose to just stand there and take it, I don't see that written anywhere, can you point it out to me please.

Funny, but I never heard that unquestioning compliance with police officials was democracy defined. But maybe it's just me.

Can we agree that if you are grilling on your sidewalk and a police officer comes along and asks you to move your BBQ around back, the appropriate response is NOT to give him a rash of crap and physically attack him?

Can we at least agree on that?
