There's going to be team penning in Brandywine the weekend of 9/26. It sounds like it should be fun. There's going to be a clinic for beginners, too. I've been waiting for team penning or sorting to come to So MD for quite some time. Anyone else going?

Here are more details if interested:

• Friday September 26th 6pm-10pm, Open Team Penning and unlimited runs. Come with a team or pick-up a team on site.
• Saturday September 27th 8am-12pm, “Team Penning 101 Clinic” If you or your horse is new to Team Penning this clinic is for you. You’ll receive detailed slow instruction on how to introduce your horse to cattle, work as a team to pen cattle, and gain an understanding of how to move cattle.
• Saturday September 27th 6pm-10pm, Open Team Penning and unlimited runs. Come with a team or pick-up a team on site.
• Sunday September 28th 10am-12pm , Open Cattle Pen, come out and work your horse on the cattle, make a Team Penning run, or cut out and turn back a cow. This event will be moderated with instruction available.

Walls Farm

Should be fun, be interesting to see who shows up.
We're used to going to Va. for stuff like this. The high school circuit is pretty cool.

You're right. It will be interesting to see how many riders participate. I hope there's a good turn out, so that team penning can continue in the area. Otherwise, the closest places I've been to are in PA and Frederick County MD. Both places are more than $100 in gas money away (r/t), plus travel time (I HATE TRAFFIC), plus riding fees. It sure would be nice to 'chase some cows' closer to home.

I had a blast team penning this weekend at Walls Farm. There were all sorts of riders and horses. I made some new friends and met some folks from the OPRC (Old People Riding Club). Everyone seemed to have fun, even though they were new to the sport. I paid for both nights. Friday night the turnout was lite. Saturday night had more riders.

Best of all, my horse did great!! After a few runs he started moving the cows with less guidance from me. I hope these guys put on another event. But, I'm sure they will need more participation to keep it going.

There were over 600 views for this thread. Anyone know why more people didn't show up?

Here's a Facebook Page for the Southern Maryland Cattle Working Coop. They are a group of folks who want to bring more cattle working events to the area in 2015. The group helped Corey Jackson put on the event in Sept., so they decided to organize for future events. The FB page has some pics from the September event, plus some cool video posts which provide information for those interested in working cattle. There's info on sorting, penning, and cow horses.

Don't forget to like the page.

Happy holidays!!
