Ovarian Cyst?

Hello everyone,as some of you may remember from my post in the ladies room,I had fibroid removal surgery two months ago. I am no better and went for an MRI which showed ANOTHER large fibroid, and adenomyosis. I give up,IM ready to do the hysterectomy. However,it also showed a complex cyst on my ovary which is on the same side the severe pain I get monthly pain. I am just so worried about this and no dr. access until Monday at least. I have a family history of cancer and everything I read sounds like a complex cyst is bad news. I'm really beating myself up because I was told in February I had a cyst that was normal and no big deal,so I let it go,and now here on the same ovary is this. Have any of you ladies had a complex cyst,or offer any personal experience? Thanks for reading.

If you do opt for a hysterectomy, have them take the ovaries too. It depends on your age though, and of course, what to do is up to you, and not us. I had the same problem with fibroids, and pain but I was 43 years old. They advised a total hyst. I've never regretted it for an instant. I wish you luck with making the right decision for you.

I'm definitely getting the hyst,I am tired of suffering and now that there is a possibility of cancer I'm done. I'm looking for a surgeon right now, everyone recommends MacKoul but personally after seeing his judiciary case search, and board sanctions,as well as meeting him he seems like a sociopath. My choices are down to Rosenshein or Lin,both up the road. Who did yours,Roman?

My GYN retired this past June. Dr. Alonzo. She was great. Go with the Doctor you feel confident in. You'll hear horror stories about even the best of the best.

I'm actually going through the same thing. I have a complex cyst that is larger than the ovary on my *ONLY* ovary. I was hospitalized last month for colitis and they are fairly certain my ovary ruptured at that time. They are now dicking around with removing anything because I was also informed that I only have 1 functioning kidney. It appears, I have lived most of my life with only 1 functioning kidney and that my non-functioning kidney stopped working when I was younger. After a renal sonogram, they have found that the non-functioning kidney appears to be developed, although smaller than an adult kidney, and that the reason it doesn't work has to do with a blockage between the bladder and kidney. A blockage that I have obviously lived a good portion of my life not knowing existed. I have to get the nod from the kidney doctor on what goes 1st, which hopefully happens this week when I see him with my massive file and discs full of pictures. I want the hysterectomy first and they can explore or fix the kidney, if that can even be done, after I recover from that.

Today, I have been miserable hence the reason me and my computer, TV and sofa have spent so much time together. The effer hurts and if I could rip it all out this moment, I would.

I made it clear to my doctor that I don't want him to just removed the ovary and cyst but the whole shabang. I am not going to live my life having my reproductive system removed on the installment plan and have already had 1 ovary, Fallopian tube and a piece of my uterus removed when I was in my early 20's. I had NovaSure a few years back and now this.

Take it away. :tantrum:

On another note, I wouldn't panic and think you have cancer at this point, 99% of all cysts are benign but complex cysts (like what we have) have an 85% chance of being benign so hang in there and know that you are not alone in the stupid waiting game. :tap:

Wow,Dakota - we have a lot in common! My daughter was born with only 1/2 of her uterus functioning, and has one kidney as well. She has been told female sex organs and the urinary system form at the same time in uterine,so the anomalies run in pairs. I myself am happy to off the couch, but will be knocked on my butt next week. Our family pretty much revolves around our cycles between my daughter and I. I actually gave her a heating pad one year for her birthday and she was psyched!

I don't know if this is helpful or not, but I suppose all info is useful. When my daughter was in 9th grade she had horrible pains in her abdomen. Dr. Brookes said she had ovarian cysts. Her periods were never on time. 3 to 4 a year. He put her on birth control because of the lack of periods were causing the eggs to keep thickening, as in turning into cysts. He said if that didn't work she would have to have surgery. It worked and she didn't have to have surgery. She was on bc for years, but recently got married and took her self off, voluntarily (she just turned 28). I was shocked to find out that her periods are now perfectly normal and on time; I didn't expect that. I always worried about her getting preg because of her lack of monthlies. Life is full of irony and surprises. She is normal now, but it seems her new hub has a sperm count problem. You just never know what life will deal ya. It seems bc has other uses besides preventing preg. Have you ever been on it? That is all I know on the subject. I wish you the best.

Forgot to ask...who's your surgeon going to be?

My primary doctor mentioned the possibility that this is a birth defect *or* it could have been the result of my having severe Pneumonia in 1977. Besides annoying female issues, I haven't had a reason to have MRI's/CTs, etc. I rarely get sick. I am hoping I'll know more about the cause when the team of specialist sit down with me later this week.

It is said that 1 in every 750 babies born only have 1 kidney (the other kidney is completely absent) and most find out while having something else checked. Then there are those people like me born with both but one stopped working and it went unnoticed. I think the real kicker is that it went completely unnoticed, meaning my kidney function always showed normal, but in hindsight, the signs were there. I have always had trouble regulating my blood sugar and blood pressure, something that is a constant struggle for a person with only 1 kidney. My father took the news very hard but finally excepted it when I said "I'm glad I didn't know this growing up, because mom (R.I.P.) would have put me in a bubble and restricted me from everything." He knows that is true and there is still a strong possibility that this non functioning kidney will never work again. It has been non functioning for a long time and I have managed just fine with 1 all this time.

For my female needs, I have been seeing Doctor A. Kane and Bushrod in Waldorf/Clinton for nearly 30 years. If it wasn't for them, I truly believe I wouldn't have my 2 children now (both teenagers). I had complications with both. The 1st, I retained way too much fluid (hummm having 1 kidney will do that) and the 2nd, I delivered a premature baby who happens to be 6'1" now.

^^His daughter joined the practice nearly 18 years ago (which makes me feel old because it doesn't seem like it was that long ago) but I believe for the stage we are at, either A. Kane or E. Kane would do the surgery if not both.

It didn't work the first time for me in my 20's, in fact, it made me worse. Now that I'm, ahhh, straight up middle aged, BC pills can be risky for us women over 40.

I am so sorry you have so many obstacles in front of you. All I know from knowing you through this forum is that you are an awesome, smart and funny person (your avatar reflects that). I wish you the best, Dakota. More than you will ever know. Hang in there. You have just been added to my prayer chain. :huggy:

I will deal with the hand I was dealt.

I am just glad these "obstacles" happened as we are approaching winter. I would have been completely pissed off had this happened in the Spring, keeping me from all my fun summer activities. The way I see it now, I have 6 months to deal with this and I'm most likely getting some additional time off during the holidays. At least I have paid leave stored up and insurance so it is all good.

So many women who have had a hysterectomy have told me that it will be one of the best days of my life.

Your humor is something I can learn from! I have heard that too about hysterectomies. Like get the hell out of my body! Too bad that couldn't happen before menopause, we suffer enough. Men will never get that! I just love you! You are a hoot, and always find the other side when it comes to the bad times, and see the positive. You go, girl!

It will! You will wish you had it all taken out years ago.

I thought you turned old, grumpy, hair fall out, etc. Heck no. It was and still is wonderful!

Like floating on a cloud. Peaceful.

Best of luck!

The best part is how simple hysterectomies are these days compared to what they were in the past. Apparently it is only 1 night in the hospital and most are up and on their feet within 12 hours because it is done by laparoscopy. A few of my friends that have had them recently said the same thing.... they wish it was done years ago. I won't be able to lift anything heavy for a few months which is fine by me, sounds like the perfect excuse not to shovel snow. I will have the doctor write me a note that I can waive around whenever that chore comes up. Gotta note... it says "cannot shovel snow."

Dr Im,who is with Rosenshein in Baltimore has a technique where he does it all through the belly button. One incision. For me, I really fear having a blood clot from the surgery,so I just want up out of bed ASAP afterwards. I'm also nervous about the possibility of cancer.

Being nervous about cancer is not going to change the pathology report. I truly believe you have very little to worry about. Being an 19 year cancer survivor, I have a little saying I go by, and it helps me to not worry about cancer, it goes, "It's NOT cancer until they say it's cancer". So just enjoy your life, and do your best to not worry. :hugs:

This has nothing to do with cysts, but Roman does your hubby have oysters in the jar yet? I'm really getting tired of driving over to Chesapeakes Bounty. Although the owner Will is YUM!:notworthy:notworthy
