Pickled Eggs

So, I made pickled eggs for the first time by myself (usually Gramma made them). I used McCormick pickling spice, white vinegar and beets. They turned out way too sweet. Any suggestions? Any good recipes for my next attempt?

I believe it depends on one's taste. To every can of beets with juice I add a cup of apple cider vinegar. No sugar.

I think the idea is to use eggs vs. beets....

Did you use just canned beets or pickled beets? Pickled beets may be the reason the eggs are too sweet.

I used regular canned beets. DH says they're fine. The problem may be that he has a sweet tooth and I prefer tart/savory, so our perception of "sweet" is totally different.

We'll see how the added vinegar works...
