Pediatrician

Ummmmm ....
Looking for one in the St. Mary's area. I'm located close to Loveville, so I'm looking for someone in Charlotte Hall, California, Hollywood or Leonardtown. Any recommendations on docs? I've heard to stay away from the Shah practices.

I take mine to Dr. Sheth in Lexington Park, which I know is outside of your area. HOWEVER, he's part of a small group of doctors that trade off weekend hours and vacations. The two offices that he trades weekends with are Dr. Patel in Leonardtown (in that building between the parking lots with McKays and Food Lion) and Dr. Dhillon who is in Leonadtown on the square.

I've been to see both (on an irregular basis when the kids get sick on the weekends) and they both seemed very nice. I can't really speak to how their offices are during regular business hours, but we never had any wait when we saw Dr. Patel.

Dr. Dhillon was our pediatrician. He's the only doctor I've known to follow up with a personal phone call after office hours, to check up on "Bub" after we had him with a high fever. I don't know the others mentioned.

We use Dr Sheth too. Love him!

We use Dr. Khetpal, she is at the Jarboe building & I guess part of the shah's but we really like her. She has called after hours to check up on the kids as well.

I wouldn't take my dog to Dr. Sheth. That is who my ex had for his daughter (now 12 & she goes to Khetpal since she was 5) The nurses were not nice or patient, his wife was down right nasty & we were double billed several times. He misdiagnosed our child twice, ended up taking her back in while he was on vacation so we went to Dhillon who said she had Bronchitis when Sheth said it was just from going in & out of the A/C in the summer.

RECENTLY (in the last 2 years), a friend of mine had started taken her newborn to him & had a HORRIBLE experience. They would not give her records & the baby was a preemie & needed immediate treatment etc. I don't remember all the details but it got ugly.

We love Dr Dhillon. Wonderful man, mostly great staff. Kids like him - my youngest even kissed him on her first visit.

Your mileage may vary with others - we went to Dr Dhillon because our previous pediatrician would not prescribe ADHD medication for our son without monthly visits to a psychiatrist, even though his condition is related to a birth defect - it's not psychological. Same pediatrician repeatedly requested - and we relented - to having his hearing checked by a specialist, because he screamed at having them checked at the office (his hearing was completely normal). He screamed because no one ever put anything in his ear before.

I've heard the same doctor praised elsewhere. Just be prepared that your own situation may differ.

Dr. Sheth's wife is a bitch and will one day have his practice closed down due to double billing. Half of his office staff are rude I wanted to smack the taste out of their mouths.

Dr. Dhillon is more worried about collecting as much money from your insurance every single time you come in, so be prepared to have a CBC (white cell count by finger prick) a throat culture, a rapid strep and have the fluid checked in the ears every single visit! Then it's come back tomorrow, repeat, come back the next day repeat, and come in 3 more times for follow ups. And if you're lucky, your 12 year old with a 104.5 degree fever won't have to come in 6 days in a row until puss spews from his sinus cavity before he finally prescribes an antibiotic because he's damn near septic and Dr. Dhillon can't get anymore out of your insurance company before killing him with a deadly infection.

Dr. Patel? Not always the sharpest tool in the shed. Be your own child's advocate. You know your kid better than anyone else. Make sure if you think there is a problem, that he addresses the problem.

Dr. Miller and Associates? Doesn't have hospital privileges, so that there makes me question the practice. If your kid ends up in the hospital because you took said kid to the office several times and they blew you off and now the kid is severely sick (like what recently happened to my friend), be prepared to have the "house doctor" visit your child in the hospital. An BTW, it's a new doctor every day.

Good luck!!

So who do you recommend?

I don't have a recommendation. They need to find someone they trust with their child. I just gave my opinion on some of the doctors mentioned. It's up to them to form their own opinions based upon their own experiences. I take my child to someone I trust and I'm her advocate to get good care.

I can reccomend Dr Sarah Johnson. She is in leonardtown, young and great with kids. She also sees adults if you are looking for a family doctor. The only downside i have seen is that she is in a large office and it is usually busy. Wait times aren't too bad, but you do sit in a waiting room full of sick people who are mostly there to see other docs.

My daughter saw a pediatrician for the first couple of years, until he lost his license. Ever since then, she has always seen my GP. I never saw a reason to take her elsewhere.

I don't think Sarah is accepting new patients but I have heard wonderful things about her.

I completely agree with you with the assessment with all the doctors. However, I do go to Dr. Sheth and I watch my insurance statement. I AVOID Dr. Dhillon like a plague as he misdiagnosed my son who had strep and an ear infection and he said it was bronchitis. He sent me to get x-ray etc. I drove to a family friend who is a physician ( 2 hours away) and told him what happened, gave me sample antiboitics, and i sent a report of my friend to Dr.Dhillon for his misdiagnosis(this happened 10 years ago). As for Dr. Patel, had to use him as an emergency, I think he's way too relaxed for my comfort. Have never used Dr. Miller but heard alot of things from other people.
