Strung Out
Key:

When the Conservatives revealed their plans to end subsidies, Lib Dem Energy Secretary Ed Davey said: "Putting the brakes on onshore wind would be disastrous for business and jobs in our growing green economy."

It needs to be understood that part of the gulf between left and right is, at least it used to be, the left looks at things from the standpoint of jobs and the right looks at things as to whether they will work and make sense. The perfect left wing energy program is a wave machine hooked to a turbine driven by waves made from armies of people throwing pebbles in the water. The ideal right wing one would be where that's fine if it is cheaper and better than what we're doing now.

The "growing green economy" part is what is so nonsensical. It is only growing because money is being thrown at it in spite of the zero return.

But you can't get a return on anything if you don't fund it.

Sure. Such a deal we got going on...the more money "invested" in alternative energy the more money wasted/lost/gone. Not the most popular investment model, but hey.....it's the government, so...

It's not government's job to fund pipe dreams. "you didn't build that" I sure don't want the government building anything. Unless we want projects like Obamacare forever running their course and ending up with a perfect boondoggle!

Has anyone found anything that cites facts for that 14k number?

No. I've seen claims that the number is half that..a quarter that...everybody has a different definition of what "abandoned" is too. Wind power advocates do not want to include obsolete turbines that have been turned of, nor any that are considered to be serviceable but not being used to produce electricity...and so on. The bigger story is much more current...if one googles "cancelled wind farm projects", the result is a lot of hits.

Unless it's the EX/IM bank shelling out the money, "investing" in private business, right?
