A Gunman Starts Shooting at a Crowd in Chicago. That’s When a Concealed-Carrying Uber Driver From Little Italy Showed Up.

Authorities said the gunman was 22-year-old Everardo Custodio.

He started shooting at a group of people, authorities said, which prompted the nearby driver to leap into action.

The driver, a 47-year-old resident of Little Italy, pulled out his legal, concealed-carry handgun and shot Custodio six times in the legs and back, the Tribune reported.

No one else was reported injured.

Custodio was hospitalized for his injuries and was charged with aggravated assault and unlawful use of a weapon. He was denied bond during a Sunday court hearing.

Are Chicago authorities citing Concealed Carry permits as the reason for the drop in violent crime?

No, you guys have it all wrong...its because Raum Emanuel's policies, the liberal establishment, hug sessions and the dwindling amount of thugs IN the whitehouse instead of breaking into one.....

For some folks this may not prove any connection to concealed-carry and a drop in violent crime; but the story does prove that it takes a good guy with a gun to stop a bad guy with a gun. Why is this still an unacceptable concept for so many folks?

According to this article, the Chicago Police might be adjusting the numbers to look better...

On October 28, a pathologist ruled the death of Tiara Groves a homicide by “unspecified means.” This rare ruling means yes, somebody had killed Groves, but the pathologist couldn’t pinpoint the exact cause of death.

Given the finding of homicide—and the corroborating evidence at the crime scene—the Chicago Police Department should have counted Groves’s death as a murder. And it did. Until December 18. On that day, the police report indicates, a lieutenant overseeing the Groves case reclassified the homicide investigation as a noncriminal death investigation. In his writeup, he cited the medical examiner’s “inability to determine a cause of death.”

[snip]

With the stroke of a computer key, she was airbrushed out of Chicago’s homicide statistics.
Was it just a coincidence, some wondered, that the reclassification occurred less than two weeks before the end of the year, when the city of Chicago’s final homicide numbers for 2013 would be tallied?
To help gauge each city’s overall crime level, the FBI tracks eight “index crimes.” From 1993 to 2010, Chicago’s annual total dropped by 47 percent. But from 2010 to 2013, it dropped a stunning 56 percent, or nearly 19 percent per year, according to data from the Chicago Police Department.

Garry McCarthy, who became police chief in May 2011, accomplished that huge reduction in part by changing how certain crimes are categorized.

...and then there's this story where a good guy with a gun and a brand new Illinois concealed carry permit was arrested for pointing his gun at someone and threatening to shoot them over a rent dispute.

Yeah, that defines the typical CCW person.

And has nothing to do with 'the best way to stop a bad guy with a gun is with a good guy with a gun'.

And then there's that pesky little annoying thing that gets in the way of you anti-gun folks................................................. THE CONSTITUTION!

Emmanuel must have his knickers in a wad to see legal guns in the hands of legal citizens protecting themselves and others........

And in 2012 the homicide rate hit a 53 year low. As this was prior to concealed carry, the plunge in crime is just as likely the result of Sister Mary's Tuesday evening prayer group's new weekly prayers to reduce violent crime in Chicago. Certainly a direct correlation there.

Send your comments to the author of that piece. I didn't write it. ;-)

And you think the story of the armed Uber driver is typical good-guy-with-a-gun story?

I think it answers to "the best way to stop a bad guy with a gun is with a good guy with a gun". You want to keep glazing over that point with strawmen you go right ahead. If you are being shot at by a bad guy and are more comfortable waiting for a cop (a good guy with a gun) to come save you, please let everyone know so the potential CCWs won't waste their ammo.

The downward trend in crime is a data point.

The fact that there's a carry laws is another data point.

The two may or may not be related.

The pro-gun crowd is going to cite any correlation as proof-positive that carrying weapons reduces crime.

The anti-gun crowd is going to dispute it.

That's the just the way it is, and will be. Period.

But here's the thing to keep in mind. The Pro-Gun crowd shouldn't have to worry about validating their point. They shouldn't have to worry about "vindication".

The right to carry firearms - or ANY arms - is a God-given right that should be protected by the second amendment.

Anyone who claims otherwise is a godless ####ing communist who supports anti-Constitutional behavior by their Lord And Savior The Government.

So, who cares what they think?
