During Pledge of Allegiance, Muslim Chief of Police Refuses to Salute Flag

A Miami police chief is under fire for not saluting the flag during the Pledge of Allegiance ceremony, and some folks are thinking that it may have to do with that fact that she is Muslim. The woman certainly has a lot of nerve to do so while wearing her uniform, if you ask me! Judge for yourself:

Fraternal Order of Police President Javier Ortiz was livid after he witnessed assistant chief of police Anita Najiy disrespecting the American flag as she refused to put her hand over her heart during the pledge of allegiance.

“If you’re not pledging allegiance to the United States, my question is what country are you pledging allegiance to?” Ortiz told the Miami New Times. “Anyone who isn’t offended by that is not American, because when you become a U.S. citizen, you pledge allegiance to the U.S.”

Ortiz claims that Najiy failed to display the proper courtesy and etiquette that “must be exercised when wearing a law enforcement uniform.”

A source like "rightwingnews.com" wouldn't be biased would it? It wouldn't present only a one sided, politically motivated piece now would it? An FPO President would never make a political attack on an assistant chief, would he? GRUPS would never check the local news sources, would he? Naw....

MIAMI -
The Miami Police Department said Assistant Chief Anita Najiy followed proper code when deciding not to salute the American flag while in uniform during a recent promotional ceremony.

Maj. Delrish Moss said the military code of conduct supersedes police code and that Najiy properly followed that code.

While the department's code of conduct allows for a reprimand if an officer doesn't salute the flag, it makes no mention of covering the heart during the pledge.

The statement continued, "A person who calls attention to Assistant Chief Najiy's decision to stand respectfully at attention during the Pledge of Allegiance, while he himself video taped the proceedings rather than pay the proper respect to the flag, is acting like a hypocrite."

Najiy was promoted last year with great fanfare as the first female assistant chief in city history. She is a 30-plus year veteran with the Miami Police Department.

Assistant Chief Anita Najiy did what she was required to do according to U.S. Military Code, say police department leaders.

Still, she’s being eviscerated by the city’s outspoken police union president, who rarely misses an opportunity to blast the administration and even more rarely misses a chance to express his patriotism.

That's not Ortiz's only complaint. He also says he's heard "rumors" that Najiy is Muslim

So now the Miami Police Department is branch of the military?

This would mean they ultimately fall under the command of the clueless one. Scary times...

You can take sides all you want about why the Union head suggests that the woman did not salute the flag.
The fact remains that she did not.
Personally I do not give a damn why she did not.

Do we really need people in responsible Civil jobs that do not have allegiance to our country?
If you do not support the flag how can you support the country?
The flag is the symbol of the country you alledgedly support.

Is anyone "required" to render a salute to the flag when reciting the Pledge of Allegiance?

4USC4 -
The Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag: “I pledge allegiance to the Flag of the United States of America, and to the Republic for which it stands, one Nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all.”, should be rendered by standing at attention facing the flag with the right hand over the heart. When not in uniform men should remove any non-religious headdress with their right hand and hold it at the left shoulder, the hand being over the heart. Persons in uniform should remain silent, face the flag, and render the military salute. Members of the Armed Forces not in uniform and veterans may render the military salute in the manner provided for persons in uniform.
Note the word bolded is "should" and not "must".

This is much to do about nothing.
