I suppose the fact that he quoted NMCC as being the source slipped right by you? He was pointing out that they had about as good a source as you can get. I think the split comes down to the other news folks being willing to just go with whatever random reports they get.

Obviously I don't want this to be true, but Fox News doesn't exactly have a stellar track record on reporting, and the fact that they simply said there were confirmed reports of a shooting, and you all took it as confirmed reports OF a shooting speaks volumes to how simple words can change meanings of a sentence.

WTOP is reporting "No shots Fired" They have located the caller who reported it. May have been construction noise or and this is what I think, maybe some a$$hole who thought it would be funny to shoot off a firework.

“We’ve heard lots of different theories,” says NBC News Justice Department correspondent Pete Williams, but his best information tells him that the initial report came from a 911 call from someone who thought they heard gunshots. An initial sweep and a subsequent detailed sweep, he adds, has turned up no indication of this.

CBS News says that two floors of Building 197 have been cleared with no shooter, weapons or casualties found. A third floor was being searched. WTOP's Kristi King says people in that building have been moved elsewhere on the Navy Yard campus.

"Nothing found so far," Metropolitan Police Chief Cathy Lanier told CBS News correspondent Kris Van Cleave.

Friend of mine is working a few blocks away and heard the bangs. Could be fireworks, could be a shooting outside of the Yard (it is in SE).

Fact is, we always say "we need more info" when it comes to certain stories, others we simply jump the shark.
