St Mary's County Makes FARK!

Sorry about that chief.
The story about the toad made it on Fark.com. It linked to the Beaufort, SC paper here

I loved some of the comments in the Fark comment thingee:

Weird, that's right where I went to college (St. Mary's College of MD). Nice place, but I'm glad I had a car because there isn't jack to do down there other than get blasted). Not a suprise about the toad, St. Mary's is right between the Chesapeake Bay and the Potomac river, with a ton of little inlets and rivers, so its a VERY swampy area. Another interesting fact: it has the most bars than any place in the U.S. (I forget if this is based on per capita or just highest concentration). While this sounds like a good thing, most of them look like something out of deliverance, and the local college bar where I went a few times (The Green Door, yes, named after the porno), had a dirt floor until ca. 1994, and is the only bar I've ever been in where I've had a dog fight happen under my table

toad hall elementary school?

I know, some locals told me this fact too, a while ago. Apparently they have never lived anywhere else. I remember places in the midwest (good German/Polish land) that had a population of 200, 15 bars (& 1 church). Of course the farmers all came into town to the bars. Also some places out west (MT & NM) that were the same.

This can't be true, Kearny NJ has the most pubs / bars in the US, there is literally one on every corner, including the surrounding borders of the town, and stretching out into Harrison, Newark, Belleville, and N. Arlington. It might be per population, because there's lots of people in Kearny ... so they are a bit more spread out. :bubble:

I think there is some confusion on the claim to the most pubs/bars, that was never the case to my knowledge. At one time (I believe back in the late 60s early 70s) St. Mary's had the greatest number of liquor licenses issued per capita. This was mostly attributed to all the small marina type operations where they could sell spirits along with fuel.

I used to patronize the Green Door in the 80s and early 90s, I don't remember any dirt floor.

I drank there some in the 80s, went back in a few times in the 90s (while sober) and what I remember is a rough wood floor with enough dirt to grow grass on it. Maybe the floor hasn't been cleaned in a couple of decades.

We always believed that as kids - when we were walking around on the "dirt" floor of the green door.

Green Door

Me thinks jlabsher was too darn drunk to realize they had throw his butt out into the dirt.
Hell by '94 they had indoor plumbin' and hot and cold runnin' water too.
