Four leading GOP presidential candidates – Jeb Bush, Ted Cruz, Marco Rubio and Scott Walker – are traveling to a Southern California luxury hotel in coming days to make their cases directly to the Koch brothers and hundreds of other wealthy conservatives planning to spend close to $1 billion in the run-up to the 2016 election.

The gathering – which also will include former Hewlett Packard CEO Carly Fiorina, but notably not Sen. Rand Paul — is hosted by Freedom Partners Chamber of Commerce, the umbrella group in the Kochs’ increasingly influential network of political and public policy outfits. It represents a major opportunity for the candidates at a pivotal moment in the presidential primary.

The crowded field of GOP contenders is competing aggressively for the support of uncommitted mega-donors as the campaign hurtles towards its first debates in what’s expected to be a long and costly battle for the Republican nomination.

Freedom Partners’ annual summer conference is set for August 1 through August 3, and is expected to draw 450 of the biggest financiers of the right for sessions about the fiscally conservative policies and politics that animate the billionaire industrialist brothers Charles and David Koch and many of the donors in their network.

Most have the capability to write seven- or even eight-figure checks to the super PACs fueling the GOP presidential primary, and a significant proportion have yet to settle on a 2016 choice, or are considering supporting multiple candidates. That includes Charles and David Koch, as well as Las Vegas casino mogul Sheldon Adelson and hedge fund billionaires Paul Singer, both of whom will be represented at the conference by advisers, and a number of other attendees of past conferences whose 2016 leanings are being closely watched."

Pretty convenient for this group of citizens that there is actually a list of people from whom to choose instead of one anointed individual.

Obama has been doing this with the left and Soros for 7 years why bitch about the Koch's.

I might add that our taxes are not paying for the flight of these 4 like we do for Obama.

You may find them clowns, but they are supporting the process in a positive way. You may find the candidates Bozos, but at least there's a group from whom to choose.

The left has Hillary and Sanders. Sanders and Trump are the exact same thing in the different primaries, like Matthews and Hannity are the exact same thing on TV. Wouldn't you rather get to choose from a list of viable candidates, have debates over policy, and make an informed decision? Or, do you prefer having the decision made by someone whose husband isn't sure what the definition of "is" is?

No matter the political leanings of the donor, when someone gives millions of dollars to a candidate, they expect something in return. They are not doing it to be charitable and I find it pitifully hilarious that some people think that these millionaires and billionaires just don't money to political causes out of the goodness of their heart. They all want to make sure that the laws are made in their favor. Doesn't matter if it is George Soros or the Koch brothers. They are buying political operatives to carry out their wishes under the appearance of normal government activities. The fact that they are able to do this and basically bribe our leaders legally should be depressing no matter your party.

Gee: Don't you believe corruption is a normal Government affair?

It is you know. Bad lawyers do not become career politicians because they are patriots.

So, if a woman makes $10,000,000/year and donates $100,000, you see that as different from a person who makes $100,000/year and donates $1,000? Being a good American citizen has a financial ceiling?
