Debate night - Thursday Aug. 6, 2015

Dakota

~~~~~~~
I actually plan on watching.
http://www.cnn.com/2015/08/04/politics/fox-debate-cleveland-announcement/index.html
5 p.m. debaters
The earlier debate will include Rick Perry, Rick Santorum, Bobby Jindal, Carly Fiorina, Lindsey Graham, George Pataki and Jim Gilmore and after that we will have the prime time debate.
I think Fiorina is smart - very smart but, I dunno I cannot really put my finger on why she doesn't push me over as a fan. Perhaps it has something to do with her management at HP? Or perhaps the failure that existed with HP had more to do with us seeing ripples in the economic fabric of the tech industry at the time. It doesn't change the fact that I think she is pretty damn smart. I also think Ben Carson is smart and if anyone hasn't read any of his books, consider it. They are very good. I don't think either of them have a chance. :ohwell:
I actually like Bobby Jindal. I want to like Rubio but really no person stands out for me and my least favorite is Jebb Bush.
Could the Republican prime head be Donald Trump? Really?
God bless the USA
If you don't vote (something I'm not sure I can believe, let alone understand), why would you care?
It is purely entertainment for him. Thus the popcorn reference. I don't understand that he doesn't vote either, and then, thinks it is ok to comment on politics in America. I have had this discussion with LB many times. He says he does not vote. I believe him. However, it makes no sense to me.
Of all the Republican candidates, the only one I would vote for is Donald Trump. He is brash and outspoken and into theatrics. But he is not bought and paid for, except by himself. Will he do a good job as President? No idea. Can't be any worse than the others. I do like that he pointed out that the Russian invasion of Ukraine is Europe's problem. About time someone in power tried to stop having the USA as the world cop. Let some other country sacrifice its soldiers. If his popularity continues he may very well be President, because I don't see the email thing going away any time soon for Clinton. It will make interesting discussions in the Presidential debates next year. I think she should be charged, but I doubt it will happen, too many people between her and the email server to be served up instead. I wonder if the Democrats will ever get around to scheduling debates, be interesting if James Webb, Bernie Sanders, or even the former governor of the great state of Maryland will bring up the email thing in the debates with her.
I love this quote regarding the prospect of debating Trump;
“Imagine a NASCAR driver mentally preparing for a race knowing one of the drivers will be drunk, That’s what prepping for this debate is like.” ~ John Weaver, senior adviser to Ohio Gov. John Kasich.
It may well be the end of or the beginning of the end for The Donald, but if it is - I'll be watchin' anyway. :getdown:
Going on month 5 of no TV and, like being on a good diet and exercising regularly, it gets easier and easier to not miss the chocolate covered #### balls with sprinkles.
I'm not even really sure I'm gonna miss the NFL. I've already gotten back at least 2 hours a day I used to veg in front of the damn thing, nearly every day, and now to think about having from 1 pm to damn near all evening back for my life, every Sunday, during maybe the prettiest time of the year to be outside, man! :yahoo: And to have my mind free the next day from who won (the league) and who lost (my life) and, especially on nights like tonight to be free from this farce I would have absolutely been all ginned up to care about prior to kicking the habit...
You step back from it and, after awhile, you do realize that you were immersing yourself in ####. :buddies:
Enjoy the polito-porn, kids! They know how to give you the happy ending you so crave.
Just because you have no self control and have to go all out full tilt in order to have discipline and moderation in YOUR life doesn't mean the rest of us have to do it. :rolleyes:
My "cutting the cord" thread covered these things. :lol:
I am not a big cable watcher but I won't lie, I do like my Roku and OTA antenna on crappy days. My husband is the cable watcher and I'd be fine living without it so I don't have to watch marathon episodes of "Naked and Afraid." Anyway I do have a Fox link bookmarked at home for cord cutters. :whistle: <--- in case you are tempted.
Well, you were admonishing & insulting everyone who is posting that they're watching the debate as if their viewing habits were the same as your own. I like watching the political stuff as long as I find it interesting.
When I no longer find it interesting, I tune into the Food Network. :buddies:
I think 5 months is remarkable. Many of the articles I have posted on cord cutting have people saying exactly what Larry said here. They find they don't park themselves in front of the TV for hours on end. I just hope tomorrow we won't want our time back from watching. :lol:
I don't mean to admonish. However, it is crap. I don't begrudge anyone eating bad food, drinking too much, smoking, listening to rap. I mean it in terms of 'hey, I feel better and have lost weight, shinier hair, whiter teeth since I stopped doing something bad for me..." I'm the annoying guy talking about how great it is to not drink anymore and don't see why it was ever fun waking up feeling like crap.
We all know, objectively, it makes ZERO difference what happens tonight. None. Too Big To Fail WILL go on, the hyper rich WILL continue to dominate our politics and world and nothing substantive will be done to return power back to the people, if we ever had it in the first place. Maybe things are best that way? Everyone supports terms limits. It never happens. Everyone supports a simpler tax code. It never happens. Every one wants more transparency in our government. It does not happen. That we accept this buffet placed before us as legitimate, that it matters, is simply a sign OF the problem. The only solution is to stop but we like it. We really do. We wanna believe that Donald Trump is really serious, would actually make a difference or that Marco or Ted or Rand or whomever ends up winning is really going to make things better for the middle class at the expense of our masters. I get it. I used to believe. I'd still like to yet all I see, the incessant 'THEY suck when they do THAT, there must be a good reason when WE do that' hamster wheel we choose to be susceptible to, well, they do know human nature and they do know how to manipulate and control us. Part of that, keeping us under control is giving us a show to keep us believing. I mean, ####, I still wanna believe we can over come this, so, I'm no better. :shrug:
It has eliminate so much insulting garbage from my mind. It is exactly like partying; we all drink and eat awful food and laugh and dance and sing and feel like we're having such a grand time and yet KNOW tomorrow means upset stomach, headache, whatever damage we did to ourselves yet, boy, did we have FUN! One of the truly amazing things of our times is the designated driver. They get to sit there and see how stupid we are and how much we enjoy it, just blowing off steam, changing nothing, just indulging in our way of dealing with the crap of day to day life and yet they STILL can't wait until it's their turn to get down.
For me, TV used to be the party part and I never recognized the hangover part. Now, being away from it, if I catch 2 minutes somewhere of FOX or MSNBC or pretty much anything, all I see is 'hangover'. It's been fascinating. I STILL want to and do drink and eat too much and I'm working on that but my mind feels so much healthier with out the incessant insult to my intelligence that TV is. I would LOVE true pay per view where you select what interests you and you pay for that and that alone. NO commercials. NO agenda driving content. I mean, we believe TV is 'free market' just turn the channel if you don't like it but that's going from one agenda to the other. Our news is free in that we do not demand it to be remotely objective. We just demand that it appeal to OUR bias's. It's a hoot with Stewart retiring and hearing all these people lament the loss of a 'truth speaker to power'. We don't get it. We just are blind to how well propaganda works. If he had an ounce of integrity he'd have NEVER accepted a phone call from Obama let alone visits. And so it goes. :buddies:
What I'm saying, though, is not all of us park ourselves in front of the tube every day for hours on end.
Personally, I relax in front of the TV, but I've already done my workouts, cooked dinner and/or cleaned the kitchen up. The laundry is up, the cat is fed, I ran my errands before getting home from work , I worked an 8hr day, and any other chore or project I have is done.
