Because I drink like a fish (water, soda, tea, doesn't matter).

I found, early on, that being a big drinker plus liquor don't mix.

With beer, I can drink and drink and drink and be good. Plus it's easier to pace myself.

Same here. I *can* drink enough beer to be not good, but it takes more of an effort.

mmm beer. There isn't much I can drink that other than beer that does not eff me up too quickly or leave behind a powerful headache the next day..or both. Beer does neither. (Anheuser-Busch products excepting on the headache part)
