This just in from Calvert Sheriff:

On September 11, 2015 at approximately 1055hrs, Calvert County Sheriff's Office personnel became involved in a pursuit with a 2009 burgundy Hyundai Santa Fe in the Solomons area of Calvert County, Maryland. The vehicle had previously fled from St. Mary's County Sheriff's Office personnel. The operator of the fleeing vehicle was wanted in reference to a serious domestic assault that occurred in Anne Arundel County during the early morning hours. The subject was alleged to have had a gun in his possession. A lookout had been broadcast to surrounding counties for the suspect's vehicle.

Dfc. Galen Gott was the lead vehicle in the pursuit and observed the vehicle failing to stop for intersections controlled by traffic control devices, driving on the shoulder and in the median to pass other vehicles, travelling at speeds in excess of 100 miles per hour and showing total disregard for the safety of our citizens.

Responding deputies coordinated the deployment of stop sticks, rolling road blocks and any other means to terminate the pursuit. The operator of the suspect vehicle rammed four police vehicles during the pursuit while travelling at a high rate of speed. Once the vehicles were rammed, it was determined that a Precision Immobilization Technique (PIT) would be performed to bring the pursuit to an end. Southbound Route 4 traffic was stopped at Broomes Island Road to ensure the southbound lanes were not occupied by any vehicles during the PIT. A PIT was executed northbound Rt. 4 between the intersections of Western Shores Boulevard and Governor's Run Road in Port Republic. The PIT that terminated the pursuit was performed by Dfc. Buckler. The suspect vehicle skidded into the median and it appeared as if the operator attempted to regain control of the vehicle by counter steering which caused him to cross the southbound lanes and come to rest in a wooded area along the southbound lanes.

The operator, Michael David Hussey, 58 of Odenton, was taken into custody by Sheriff's Office personnel and was transported to Calvert Memorial Hospital for injuries he sustained during the impact with the median and the tree he struck. Hussey is facing numerous serious local charges in addition to the 1st and 2nd degree assault charges, reckless endangerment, disorderly and driving on a suspended license that Anne Arundel County charged him with during the early morning hours.

This "appears" to be the suspect. Police did not release DOB, but based on the age they provided, this DOB of 11/24/1956 fits. There is another person with the same name with a FEB 1956 DOB, which makes the latter too old.

I see this by multiple cars every single day on the way to work and back. Weaving in and out of traffic, driving along the shoulders to get to the next right turn, driving along the shoulders well past the onramp merge lane, driving in the center area, tailgating, cutting you off, flashing their lights, moving into your lane regardless if you're there (BUSES!), using the right turn lane to jump ahead of straight traffic as soon as a light turns green, etc etc etc all to gain a few car lengths in rush hour traffic and then hopping back on their phones. Idiots. I'm still waiting for one of these wheely motorcycling showoff idiots to hit the ground one day and get run over. Almost saw one lose it the other day but he barely saved it and pulled off the road as if nothing happened.

How is this anything new? Oh I know, because a cop actually saw it and did something for once.

I was on rt. 4 heading north when this happened. The #### nearly rear ended me before I could get out of the way. I hope he's hurting really bad right now.

Wow. You were lucky. I remember that story from a few years ago when that private ambulance was rear ended by some guy high on pcp, or something. Scary stuff. Glad you are ok.
