Another local bank robber headed to jail

Can't remember the last time anyone got away with a bank robbery...at least not for very long.

On October 15, 2015, at 0910 hrs, Investigators from Maryland State Police Criminal Enforcement Division, Central South Region assumed a bank robbery investigation that occurred at PNC Bank, located at 37650 Oak Station Rd., Charlotte Hall, St. Mary's County, Md.

With the public's assistance, the suspect was identified as TROY T. WERTZ, age 40, of Washington D.C. After a case review with the States Attorney for St. Mary's County an arrest warrant was obtained for Wertz, charging him with: armed robbery, assault first degree, use of firearm in commission of a felony and theft.

On October 23, 2015, members from the Maryland State Apprehension Team (MSAT), Capital Area Regional Fugitive Task Force (CARTF) located Wertz at a residence in southeast Washington D.C. Wertz was taken into custody without incident.

Members from Metropolitan Police Criminal Investigations Division and MSP-Criminal Enforcement Division executed a search and seizure warrant at the residence where Wertz was arrested. Evidence pertaining to the investigation were located and seized.

Wertz was transported to the Sixth District, Metropolitan Police Department, for processing and later incarcerated at the District of Columbia jail pending extradition to Maryland. Wertz will be extradited back to St. Mary's County, where he will be served with an arrest warrant relating to the robbery.

Additional charges and arrests are possible, pending a review with the St. Mary's County State's Attorney.

Due to the overwhelming cooperation from the citizens, Prince Georges County Police Department, Metropolitan Police Department, Charles County Sheriff's Office, Southern Maryland Information Center (SMIC) and the Capital Area Regional Fugitive Task Force, the suspect was apprehend and brought to justice. MSP-Criminal Enforcement Division thanks all who assisted in this investigation, to include, the citizens who played an active role in the successful conclusion of this case.
