Okay with a red light ticket for this,St Marys?

Because when your Sheriff says "Decisions have to be made about what a violation is regarding red light cameras" I can promise you this sort of violation is on the table. Never enter the intersection, never even enter the crosswalk even, but you can get a $75 dollar ticket for this....

I know you have a big ol pole up your backside about this issue...however...

The vehicle is clearly not in the crosswalk and is also clearly not in the intersection.

Red light ticket offenses occur when, after the light turns red, drivers enter the box and proceeds thru the intersection.

In your silly little picture the officer is not stopped in the crosswalk, not stopped in a position that is a danger to himself or others, nor is s/he proceeding thru the intersection. So what are you beefing about? Besides your stompy feet "I don't like this!!" mentality?

They call me ... Sarcasmo
Because Sparky, that thick white line that the vehicle has crossed IS, technically, part of the intersection. Tell ya what, try this in DC and tell MPD that you are not in the intersection. That will be a (I think it's) $250 fine.

It must suck for you that an issue which you are so obsessed about is going to happen and there's nothing you can do about it.

Just happened to notice it and it caught my eye. Figured it might have more punch with it being a Sheriffs office vehicle. :) No danger at all pictured, no hash vibes cast at the driver of that vehicle. But, if you bother to keep up, that picture does indeed show what some places here in MD consider a red light violation citable by an automated system. Along with right on red without coming to a complete stop, which is a vilolation, but everybody agrees isn't a safety issue. Motgomery County tripled their citation count when they added right on red to camera tickets. But back to the stop line thing.....

http://www.mddriversalliance.org/2011/11/red-light-cameras-ticket-stopped-cars.html

Now, I have not really been talking about this aspect of the RLCs, since I do like and respect Sheriff Cameron, and didn't think he might entertain notions of ticketing for such things. But his own statement that there needs to be choices made about what a citation is tells me he's thinking about it. And as B.S as I think the cameras are, citations for right on red and stop line violations are over the top B.S.

Nope, doesn't suck. I do what I can to educate people and that's all I can do. I don't expect I'll get any of these tickets, and I hope I don't get rear ended but that's life. I'll keep talking about them, and what happens does.

as I mentioned in earlier posts, these "studies" can't even agree what constitutes a RLC offense. the "studies" become a farce.

Nobody was talking about studies. This isnt about accident stats, but about what you issue a citation for. Once the straight through the red light revenue drops off, the company and whomever they share the money with would like to get some of that back. And so they idea that we should issue citations for right on red. What was "OMG, red light runners are killing people, we must install these cameras to save lives" oddly enough becomes "I can cite for it, it's still an offense".

It looks like to me that the deputy is stopped in the crosswalk, which is a violation. However, the deputy is not in the intersection so therefore he is safe from any traffic hitting his vehicle. Maybe this is a cropped photo (lol). Even if a red light camera was present, the police are exempt just like they are exempt for talking on their cell phones while driving.

Police are not exempt from any traffic law unless they are on logged response. Think is was Montgomery or PG County, officers were handed tickets for speed cameras they flew by. First response was "immune", that was tossed for all the officers who were not on a logged call. Then some of the deputies deliberately sped past the cameras with middle fingers raised. Finally the union pulled the tactic that the citations belonged to the registered owner, the county, so suck it. Which they did, apparently.

Please, pay attention, I never said I got a ticket for this. I have not gotten a ticket for this. My point was that some jurisdictions use the same red light cameras the St Marys County Sheriff has said he wants to deploy to issue citations for this sort of offense. Which is silly for a supposed "safety" system. Very few people ever get tickets for this unless there was an accident involved.

You will never see one of our deputies ticketed for going over the line. And for that matter, you will not see any red light camera tickets for a police officer.

Nope, just a convenient place to get the information. The link doenst work any longer, but the original report was from WTOP.

Ah, here it is. SO, since it's from WTOP are you okay with the information now?

http://wtop.com/ticketbuster/2015/08/red-light-camera-tickets-montgomery-county/

"In the 2012 fiscal year, Montgomery County issued 22,616 red-light camera tickets. In 2014, it issued 63,537, and it’s on pace to issue another 65,358 this year. Red-light camera tickets carry a $75 fine, higher than those for speed cameras."

Although the officer may not be exempt from the law, I know of no police officer or police department civilian that will process a red light camera ticket for his offense.

Can't disagree, we have no data. Pretty sure you would play the devils own time even trying to pry such data from the system.

but what these sycophants don't understand is when the company needs more revenue they will put the sales pitch to the Sheriff and his decision to implement the cameras will be justified because citations will be issued.

I can only say this, on base, at 35 MPH, which is the posted limit, I have had the light turn yellow just as I hit the cross walk and when I looked in my rear view the light was red.

That's my concern, from the Sheriffs "Screw it, I'm doing it live" statement about not needing the Commissioners approval and his statement about deciding what gets a ticket seems to indicate he's gone hard over and isn't even open to discussing them.

The intersections in question are all 4 second yellows now, makes it easy to spot tampering. Here's an interesting article about light timing........... if the SHA does follow the formula shown, 235 would have 4.5 seconds or longer.

65,000? Wow, thats a lot of law breakers, no wonder they installed cameras.
