This shows the great faith Israel had. He brought the entire family down to Egypt. No one was left behind to continue a presence in Canaan. Jacob knew they would be back.

The sons of Judah are of special note because this is the Messianic lineage. The line of descent to this point went like this: Abraham to Isaac to Jacob to Judah to Perez to Hezron (Luke 3:33-34).

Ok.... I know no one wants to read these verses. There are just a few points about these verses that I noticed.

Judah is the Messianic Line.... that means Jesus actually comes from the Judah branch in the tree [not Joseph's....]. Judah was the one who slept with Tamar, that's his son's widow. He thought he was sleeping with a hooker.

Dinah is mentioned in verse 15. She's the one who was raped [or dishonored... depending on who's side of the story you go with] which caused the murder of every man in town. She's still unmarried and childless.

Simeon and Levi were the ones who hatched that murderous plan. First they told the men they had to be circumcised in order to marry her, then while all the men in town were sore and defenseless, they murdered them.

Rueben was the one who wanted to save Joseph from the cistern and he slept with his father's wife [Bilal].

So they all piled their stuff into carts, put their flocks together, and headed off to the land of Goshen. The whole family.... not one person from Jacob's [Israel's] family was left in Canaan.

Can't you just hear the parents saying "stop that bickering or I'll turn this cart around"?
