"We are in a historic moment: An increasing number of people declared wrong, what has been achieved in recent decades in Europe," says SPD -Politiker SPIEGEL ONLINE interview.

Schulz warns against the demons of the past, which the EU must confront. "I expect the Community of 27, the clear signal that we remain together, despite problems and dispute issues," he says. "How important is the cohesion, will be seen already in the Proposed referendum on United Kingdom membership of the European Union negotiations."

Schulz also talks about his fear of possible US president Donald Trump . "Then sitting at a point where it needs a heightened sense of responsibility, an obviously irresponsible man," he says. "Trump is a problem, but for the whole world, not only for the EU."
