The Defcon Warning System, a private organisation which monitors world events and estimates the nuclear threat against America, is now at Level 5 - its lowest possible state.

Just weeks ago the warning was accelerated to Level 3 following increased tensions between US and Russia, with insiders fearing the West was creeping closer to nuclear war.

Level 3 means US troops could be mobilised in as little as 15 minutes.

If it's a private organization, why would the military rely on it to determine readiness rather than use their own intelligence agencies. Or maybe it's the other way around, the organization notices the relaxed military readiness and uses that as an input into their calculations.

Military? Intelligence? Obama has eviscerated the intelligence community as a whole. the general, educated populace has as good a grip on what's happening as the US intelligence community. Maybe loosing the shackles of the intel gathers under the new admin will improve on that.
