Another stock is reeling into the red after a tweet by President-elect Donald Trump.
"The F-35 program and cost is out of control," Trump tweeted. "Billions of dollars can and will be saved on military (and other) purchases after January 20th."

The next-generation fighter jet has overrun costs — overshooting the original budget by 50% — but is near completion. In total, the military has spent roughly $1.5 trillion on the development of the F-35.

Following the tweet, Lockheed Martin's fell by 5% as of 12:45 a.m. ET. Based on the number of shares outstanding, the tweet has shaved just over $3.8 billion from Lockheed's market cap.

A conspiracy theorist might be tempted to think that after the stock reaction to his last tweet that he might be playing games with the market. Tell a buddy or three to short Lockheed, make the tweet, then they jump on the drop. Maybe then buy stocks at the lower value and wait for Jan 21 when Trump tweets that the F-35 is a modern marvel and he is doubling orders.

Cost over runs on the F-35 are ridiculous. Trump is right.

IMO trying to make one plane fit all is about as good a buying a hat with an elastic band that makes it fit all and the band goes bad in a month.

Last time that was forced on the Services, they all got stuck with service-specialized F-4's.

despite the name the F-35 is actually three different jets. one for the AF one for the Navy and one for the Marines and other applications. three different sizes, configurations, and sets of requirements.......

Because shockingly, each has different environments. A/F doesn't want or need to pay for heavy duty landing gear that can take the loads of carrier operations, they would rather take that weight back and use it for other stuff, or just to "add lightness", because doing that increases performance for no cost. And the Navy doesn't really need V/STOL, we can use that weight and space for other stuff.
