Personal Responsibility - What happened to it?

It seems nothing wrong is ever the fault of the person committing the offense.

Is this the fall out from everyone gets a trophy or some other touchy feely concept?

Oh, boy. Where to start?

Well, on a national level, when Bush was President and did one big gummint thing after another, his defenders blamed everyone but him; the press, the Democrats, the weather, made excuses for him.

With Obama, it was all the fault of Republicans.

Before that, Bill Clinton's behavior depended on what 'is' is. Sex was no longer what we thought it was. Abuse of power, no longer what we thought.

Before that, Reagan wasn't held responsible for arms for hostages. JFK wasn't held responsible for nearly destroying the planet let alone running a private assassination war out of his office.

We didn't hold ourselves responsible for Dresden or either of the nuclear bombs. We didn't hold ourselves responsible for the mass starvation we allowed immediately after the war.

We run a cynical system of prohibition whereby poor people populate for profit jails for drug offenses while drug companies oversee the deaths of 1,000's with opioids.

Ted Kennedy sure wasn't held accountable.

Then, there is TARP where the richest, most powerful people in the world not only didn't have to pay for their mistakes. They were rewarded.

We have a president that all but incites riots, clearly has soured social relations and some people are tying to make the case he's been a good president. He's run a real assassination program, judge, jury and executioner, with the drone program, including executing US citizens and no one says a peep left or right.

We have cops who did their job properly excoriated and others who murdered people covered up for.

It's a pretty tough sell to get the little people to take responsibility when our leaders aren't real big on it.
